Why are Apple computers used in Adds?

The only thing that puts me off Apple ownership is most owners of Apple equipment.

Thankfully I've been able to ignore that and love my Macbook and iPhone, they are perfect for me. :)

While some people perceive MACs to be better looking (personally I really think the white plastic and glossiness really ugly, the aluminum is not much better), the aesthetics of the MAC is not why they are used in films/TV. There are plenty of good looking PCs, an they could easily and cheaply have a designer made laptop for a film. No, the real reason MACs are used is because of the image of Apple, it fits with the whole Starbucks experience.

They used to be overpriced, but if we compare apples to apples... as it were ;)

But...but...Apple computers are overpriced!!!

I find it sad how almost any thread about Apple in GD decends into a "Macs are overpriced and you can build a PC that is the same for £400" - This diatribe is old and was tripe a long time ago.

There is a reason Apple computers are used almost exclusivley in the design and media market. Final Cut Studio, Shake, Combustion, Modo and this list goes on. All these (and quite a few are Mac only or optimised for OS X) running on a BSD based OS.

But then again I guess these studios don't know what they are talking about and just buy overpriced eye candy tat?

Oh and ad agencies use them because they look nice.

Funniest one is the one about the women dieting where they have chocolate on their desks but keep avoiding it. If you look they dont even have them plugged in!

Reminded me of this.

:p

Also, more Mac vs PC rubbish, both platforms have their advantages and disadvantages, you should just leave it at that.

Surprised this thread hasn't been locked yet.

Raikiri hit the nail on the head.

Compare like-spec machines and there's not a lot in it. Ok, there may be extra costs associated (as per his example) but if that machine is what you want, buy it. Some people are jumping to conclusions by heading to the Apple site and comparing a core i7 self-build with the price of a Mac Pro, which is essentially an 8-core workstation.

You'll always be able to build a better machine for the money if you do it yourself.

I truly believe people on here get off hating the company because they can :(

What it comes down to is that both platforms are viable and have their advantages.

Only some people are too poor to have the choice, so they get bitter, and threads like this happen.

It's a shame.
