Why are certain types of racism tolerated on here?

i dont have a problem with most people of indain/pakistani/etc race because most of them have come over here, worked all their life, speak english and respect our heritage and ways of life. the people that really do **** me off are the people that come over from abroad, expect immediate benefits and a job and dont even speak the language

anyways, im off to bed, night all :)

the only way to not cause offence is to think before talking ...
no - you can't avoid offending at least 1 in 65 billion people whatever you say tbh. in fact there is probably at least one person out there who would be offended by the fact that you're talking (regardless of whatever sounds you utter)!

I've never understood why people consider ****, Chinky, Jock, Paddy etc racist. It's simpy a description of someone's nationality. I can see a problem where someone might mistake a **** for an Indi, given the differences in culture etc (think Scotland England^1,000,000). Why the hell should those words be considered insulting?

If I'm a Jock so what? Sweaty Sock is just rhyming slang :) I could think of much worse adjectives I've used when describing those from Englandshire :p ;)

I call shenanigans on this thread.

No Jock with even a modicum of sense could possibly conceive that being called a "Jock" or "Sweaty Sock" is in any way offensive - the OP is either taking the **** or requires some intensive education regarding the usage of colloquial terminology.

Admit it OP, you're winding us up.

Stan :)

i don't think he's intelligent enough for that, given his replies. i think he's just someone who doesn't understand the difference between (laughable) stereotypes and actual racist remarks.

Sadly, I think you may be right.

It saddens me that the over exposure that PC thinking has received in the last few years has caused people like the OP to feel that he should be offended by innocent terms such as "Jock" etc. If I had been offended by such things, I would feel terribly alienated and would have fallen out with almost all of my Ingerlish friends.

Thankfully, most of us are fairly pragmatic and can absorb the intentional jibes amongst the lighthearted banter :)

Nice sig :)

im sorry but i realy do fail to see how you find the word jock offensive, were scots and your living in glasgow, its a light hearted way of some scottish bloke. It will continue to be used and has been for a long time, same as geordie and I see no reason for it to stop.

thats my opinion and im a jock :p

I think you really need to get a grip on reality here dude.

The word Jock is rarely used as a racial slur - more often than not it is used in a lighthearted manner - it is a word used to describe Scots the same as the word Geordie is used to describe someone from Newcastle or Scouser to describe somone from Liverpool.

Most of the problems arising from usage of words such as these are caused by oversensitivity or a desire to be offended rather than any racist intent.

Lighten up chap.

Stan :)
^^^ What he said.

Personally someone calling me a **** doesnt really offend me nor cause me any great harm. I can see why indians ie people from India get offended as they are not from Pakistan. Same applies for us ****'s as well, i would get highly offended if someone called me an indian etc. But then the term indian really isnt an offensive term imho.
Anyways like Stan said earlier on, i think too many people are over sensitive about certain words and terms...as i said i dont mind being called a **** as i would just answer back...thanks for reminding me of what i am:p:D.
