Why are GPUs so expensive?

In fairness he is completely correct, Nvidia did intentionally lower the image quality of their drivers to get an FPS advantage over ATi. The bit he's missing out however is that it isn't 2006 anymore :D
ATI did the same thing with Quake. Both as bad as each other back then in fairness.

:D:D, the problem with you making this statement is that 4K8K will think you are supporting his argument!!

Lol. Yeah, he likes to see what he wants to see. It’s like when he is reading, what gets through is he agrees with, rest of it is discarded. He really needs to read the link below and to understand what he suffers from :p

Something will need to be done regarding the prices of GPUs when next gen consoles get released. I mean, the Series X GPU is apparently around 12TF, if true it just makes the overpricing in today's market even more laughable.

Plus with all the optimisations consoles have, i do think Nvidia/AMD will have a tougher time shifting mediocre 400/500 GBP cards.

Next year Nvidia/AMD need to start offering incredible cards at very good prices, it's the only way they'll stop the mass migration to consoles for some people.

Personally, consoles aren't an option for me, so i'm hoping they both get their **** together with regards to pricing.

I also think that a new console will be the better option, one XBox with Radeon Arcturus would be great. We don't even know what monstrosity this Arcturus may turn out to be!

If we compare the sound print of headphones for £20 with the visual quality of a GeForce, we would find very close resembling.
AMD's visual quality is like the sound quality of the £30 Superlux HD681 EVO.

Am I the only one who thinks 4K8K is on a permanent wind-up?

What is a sound print? Visual quality of a geforce is £20. AMD's visual quality is £30.

Good job I am out on the beer all day today, as when I get back, that might make sense :D

Am I imagining this? Surely, I am dreaming or something, no wait, @Gregster has seen the same thing. Sound prints?

You haven't proven in any way that AMD's Visual quality is better or worse than Nvidia's. You pick random quotes from threads around the web and post them as proof, then ignore the rest of the thread that says there is no difference. Or else you show things from over 10 years ago and say "look, Nvidia's image quality is crap" Totally forgetting that AMD were at the same back then, hiding details to improve frame rates.

Now things are different. Sure there are still games that look better on AMD cards and games that look better on Nvidia card, but they are exceptions not the norm.

The Burden of proof is on you. Don't bring up the topic again unless you have hard evidence. PROVE IT once and for all or shut up about it. And by hard evidence I mean images and videos from a range of modern games highlighting the vast difference in visual quality that you are talking about. Not random quotes from various forums. They prove nothing.

If Nvidia's image quality is really that bad then this should be simple for you to do. And it will make you famous too, look at all the hardware tech sites and journalists that aren't reporting this. Because, if it's true, it would be a huge news story in the tech world. Even totally AMD biased tech reporters like Adored TV haven't mentioned it.

:D It's kind of odd the way he keeps sidetracking the discussion back to image quality whenever people prove him wrong in what he is saying. And, it's kind of ironic that he jumps back to that topic as he is wrong about that too!! :p Maybe he is like a digital Benjamin Button and he is stuck in 2006 and can't understand why we can't see the same things he does. That would explain why he keeps banging on about SD TV :D

On a slightly related topic.... There is still a shelf of MSI RX 580 Armor's priced ON CLEARANCE at a big retailer for a mere $574 each near me, for at least the past 6 months.

I won't pay high end prices for mid-range cards, which is what we have today. Worse than that, i'm not sure the prices will drop.

The next couple of years are going to involve some serious gaming dilemmas from a personal point of view.

Even though i enjoy the platform, GPU pricing is making PC gaming an extremely tough sell at the moment.

All of us just want cheaper, better performing GPUs.

It'll fall on deaf ears, melmac. I have had this same discussion with him on more than one occasion to no avail. He is a massive delusional troll who's now pulling an AndyCr15 and blocking anybody who upsets him by disagreeing. You are wasting your time and killing your own braincells by trying to get him to put up or shut up. Seriously, you'd get a better response talking to a brick wall.

I also don't consider spending mid-range money for low-end products like the RX 5500 XT. My own RX 560X in the notebook is with the same die size, just half the transistors because on N14 process.

I think I will stay with my Radeon R9 380 4GB until N7+ RDNA 2 cards come at good prices.

For now, I am not tempted by any card.

At least console gaming is fair and equal. PC gaming has people with 60hz, 120hz, 144hz and 240hz screens playing online together which gives people an unfair advantage.

there is no unfair advantage.

the number one most important factor in online gaming is game skill.

one of the best console players on destiny who went to the lighthouse over 100 times played on a £300 50 inch polaroid tv. that was several years back when people were spending £1200 on a decent 50 inch.

otherwise i could argue people using SCUF controllers on console is unfair. as they do give you a real advantage.

so explain how console is fair with people using third party or modded controllers?

I'm using AKG Q701's and Sennheiser HD700's so please explain what the above means?
