Lol, I was stroking a mates cat once on a desk and it was getting so into it that it just rolled off the side of the desk and straight onto the floor. Some cats are bloody nutters.

Also, is it just my cat that has the most random 30 mintue outbursts of energy in which she goes absolutely MENTAL and just runs about and attacks things at random?
One of ours does that - although not for 30 minutes at a stretch though! He'll go a bit weird for about five minutes and tears around the house with this manic look in his eyes. While he's tearing about he'll sometimes do what we call one of his 'powerslides' - he'll come hurtling in the room and stop suddenly, sliding forward with his front paws stretched out. Doesn't have any apparent cause or stimulus - he just appears to kick off completely at random.

Cat's love fresh flowing water. Check out water fountains for cats and dogs.
We've got one of those water fountain things in the kitchen/diner - of our five cats only about two of them use it regularly. The other three appear wary or even scared of it and prefer to drink out of a bowl filled with plain old tap water.

one of my cats, loves to get into carrier bags. apparently they like the sound of the crinklyness.
Ours are scared to death of the crinkly sound of carrier bags and won't go near them. We have one that is obsessed with cardboard boxes though - if we get something delivered, once it's unpacked he HAS to get in the box. I've concluded that it must be some sort of compulsion as he does it every time he sees a box rather than at random.

If it's cold at night, one of ours has taken to climbing under the duvet.
One of our females does that - if we are sleeping facing in opposite directions, she'll get under the duvet between us and dozes off.

One of our five does something I've never seen or heard of a cat doing before - he fetches. His favourite toy is a little ball that he loves chasing around the floor. We were playing with it and him once and my wife threw the ball to the completely opposite end of the room. He tore off after it and our jaws nearly hit the floor when he picked it up in his mouth and came trotting back towards us with it, dropped it a few inches in front of us and batted it back to us with a paw.

We were convinced it was a one-off, but he did it again and again. He'll only do it with his favourite ball and when he's in the right mood, but we're at a loss to know where he learnt to do it in the first place. He was only a few weeks old and living feral when we adopted him, part of a litter that was abandoned by some unscrupulous scumbag - despite that less than ideal start in life, he is the most adorable, sweet-natured little fella you could wish to meet.

I never understood the carrier bag/box thing. I have memories of me opening my xbox before christmas,in secret, and my cat went in so we locked it in and she was poking her nose out the cut out section that allowed you to see the serial number. She also goes in every carrier bag you put on the floor, she then proceeds to sit there like a dark ninja waiting to pounce. :p

Seems I'm the only owner who has a cat whos "wierd" behaviour is attaching itself to my face

I have noticed the ol' tail being held high, she always does that when I'm walking about the house, she's the type of cat that has to lead, she get VERY aggitated if you try to over take her, guess I'm just lucky :p

He then finds my wife hand and put his paw on it, only then will he go to sleep.

mine has started that too but she climbs under at the bottom of the bed and kips between my legs

at the moment she has a foam packing chip which is providing hours of fun :p , I keep hearing her bouncing up and down stairs chasing it

Likewise - with Christmas just gone, one of ours has been like a thing possessed chasing a bloody Quality Street wrapper ...

Cats do werid stuff and get in werid places (cat nip, and laser pens, glow sticks, carrier bags, take over the bed, wardrobes, windows sills, bathroom cupboard, behind the sofa, on the unit, trys to sit on the shelfs, under the bed or even behind the washing machine)

I have three toms, and they're all completely insane. Just about everything mentioned in this thread has happened to me at some point with one or more of mine. From the drooling to the padding, from the sleeping on the face to hiding in strange places – I never know what my three are going to be up to at any point in time.

Given half a chance, any of them will get under the duvet – some nights, especially when it’s really cold, I have to tuck myself in to avoid them getting under the covers and turning into permanently-on hot water bottles.

I used to date a vet, and she used to tell me all these reasons for cat behaviour, from “padding” being a throwback to kittenhood and getting milk/letting mum know you're there (also known an IJB – Inappropriate Juvenile Behaviour), to how showing you their bot means they like you (not as much as rolling over and presenting their belly though – total trust). She used to tell me about how putting their toys in their food bowl is just like having a larder, or why cats splash their water – it’s because they prefer moving water, like from a stream, rather than a stagnant pond (I immediately bought a pet water fountain – which my cats love).

Actually, I could go on for weeks, but happy to help with any queries, I got a shedload of useless information floating around…..and a really boring book on cat psychology somewhere. Might look at the mentioned Desmond Morris book, as Manwatching is brilliant.

When cats present thier belly, it doesn't mean they want you to stroke/tickle it like with a dog does it? If I try with ours, she'll usually bat me with her paw (so I don't try to anymore :p ). Does anyones cats like thier belly touched?

Once our cat just got up a started walking toward me really threateningly, with a sort of snarl on her face and a slow pouncing like walk. When she got quite near she just sort of suddenly snapped out of it  :D

an excellent toy for a cat is a ping pong ball,
they go berserk trying to bat it around the room.

fill the kitchen sink with water and then put the ping pong balls in , ours loves that

Mine loves it, if she's following (or leading) me about the house, the 1st thing she'll do when we enter a room is roll on her back for a tummy rub :p

I'll give it a go, I'm not sure they are keen on water though :)

I think they find our bath time a bit odd, in that humans actually like to sit in a puddle of warm water without our "fur" on. They all trundle in to give us a funny look.

One of them likes running water; if I flush the toilet, he'll rush up and stick his head into the bowl to have a good look

haha, more cat-isms :)

Yeah, displaying the belly does not always mean "Scratch me here!" - some cats may develop a liking for belly-scratching, much like some cats like their ears scratched while some prefer their jawline getting a tickle. In fact, for some cats, it depends on when they display their gut. One of mine, who incidentally has a massive frame and belly, displays his belly when he's hungry and at barely any other time - and when he does it, you tickle it to your heart's content and he'll just lie there.

As for baths and showers, one of mine, the dominant one, hates them. He'll only very infrequently come into the bathroom. The big ginger lad will sit at the far end of the bath while I'm having a shower - staring at the moving water (see previous post about liking running water!), while the remaining mischief-maker will walk up and down the side of the bath if I'm in it. Many the time he's sat there and had his tail sitting in the water and he couldn't care less.

My ex-boss, used to tell me how, if she left the seat down but the top up on her toilet, the cat would sit and squat over the bowl for a leak. And if the toilet was shut, it would pee in the bath. I was too busy laughing and looking skeptical to ask if it flushed.

Not always. Ours used to hate anyone going near her ****.

She used to show her belly as a sign of submission. If you pretended to play rough with her or growl she would flip onto her back as to say 'you win, don't want any rought stuff'.

If only the average girlfriend were so amicable.

Mine climbs into bags and then runs around the floor inside them  She also tries to crawl under pieces of paper that are on the floor, which usually results in her crawling across the floor with the paper on her head, looking remarkably silly.
