I have the iMac listed below, it runs whatever programs I want; including any game I want.
Is more stable than Windows will EVER be.
iLife suite comes with the mac, with OSX...Make websites, edit and create movies, dvds, edit photos, front row, etc and etc...
You cant even play a dvd from a fresh XP install LOL...It might have the biggest available software out there, but you just dont get that 'out of the box' experience.
What do windows people get from a fresh install? Nada...

At college we have to use Macs for a composition in our sound, sequencing and synthesis module, after using cubase for about 4/5 years, I now have to simultaneously compose 2 pieces and learn how to use logic and therefore a mac before Christmas.
Sucks.
And yet people still ask me "Oh you have a recording setup at home, why don't you have a mac?!" Upon asking the question "Why do I need a mac?" I'm yet to find someone who can actually give me any answer, at all!

I played Doom I/II YEARS before it came onto Mac, yes the Mac version looked great...Mac boys were going mental for it. Bored with Doom, completed it 20+ times. Whoopee.
No I'm not a serious gamer, I'm a casual gamer that enjoys playing games. I don't have enough spare time to be a 'serious' gamer. I haven't for many years.
When did Doom come into it? Very strange addition to the discussion.

Very true I must say, and I won't bad mouth Windows either. Windows is good, and easily adaptable with all those programs out there.
Apple Mac's I suppose are for people who don't want to have to choice between this software and that software.
They make their own, and do a pretty damn good job at it.
I cant' get over how good iLife is, iTunes-iPhoto-iMoves-iDVD etc...
Plus the iMac just looks sexy
fair enough. still just seems like a waste of money getting a mac imo.
if you just want to get away from windows then try linux.

I'm going into the Graphic Design industry... Everyone else will be using macs so it's going to reduce compatibility issues for one thing. I've got nothing against windows either, like I said I'm getting Vista.

mmm well i guess it might make things easier, my uncle's a graphic designer (bernard hayes design) and he like's mac's. I don't have anything agaisnt them, just you can get better performance for you're money from a pc.
I can use both on a professional basis.
MAC is GUFF and the people I meet with the MAC ethos suck tbh,
I prefer getting things done with people that have ambition and freedom of expression.
In my experience MAC users are dull and to pre ocupied with hair gel

For 95% of users a Mac does more. Pro tools? I don't even know what that is.
Most users don't use programs like that. My Mac does everything my PC does (except the framerate on games) and also does a lot more.
It's a lot quieter (almost silent in fact), is more powerful, looks 10 times better, takes up less space, has better residual value, causes me less problems, came with more software, etc, etc.
I don't have a problem with Windows. I don't find it bad at all. I never had the OS crash but I did have to do fairly regular re-formats.

But can you? I'm about to get a Macbook Pro which is a high-end performance Mac. It's going to have a Core2Duo processor, 4GB of RAM etc etc etc...
With a student discount it's going to cost £2k. Every time I've upgraded my PC it's been about £2k (admittedly I've not bought a high-end Laptop before but I assume it's going to be more expensive for the same spec Laptop than desktop).
So how much faster is the PC laptop that costs £2k going to be than my MBP? Especially with the software I'll be using, Adobe Creative suite, Logic 8 etc etc...
