Why do I hate apple?

Hmmmm this old chestnut again. This argument rears its ugly head once every few months, pc users slate macs and vice versa and it all just rolls around until the next time it gets brought up.

At the end of the day, people have a choice and should be free to make it. I have both apple and pc in my home and have used both in a personal/professional capacity for a long time. I have had to replace my pc laptop several times over the years and my desktop, however my old i-mac keeps chunnering along and now runs the latest version of their software. Unfortunately this argument is often down to ignorance. PC people don't use the Macs, or use them and don't like the difference so never get into it enough to experience the differences and the benefits from using a mac. Usually as has been said, Mac users have knowledge and experience of using PCs and Windows, so know where the flaws are. PC users slating Macs are often just scared of change or as i've said, ignorant, and don't know how to use them properly.

This bulldust about only being able to use limited software on a mac just shows that pc users don't actually know the facts and are just harping on with the same old rubbish - if you know where to look you can find a mac version of pretty much anything.

As for saying that macs are for 'real' users, well surely Linux users>PC Users?? ;)

Oh, and if Windows apps are so brilliant, why are they identical to Mac apps from 2 generations ago at least?? I think we have apple to thank for the windows GUI you all seem so fond of, and if you take a look at Vista - , it has a dock system that's been available in mac OS's for ooooh - ever, and has the same way of behaving as Expose - which first came out in Panther which came out in October 2003 iirc?

You can stick to your 4 year old technology if you think its so brilliant, but I think we can tell who the clever ones are ;)

Explain why I can spec the same configuration with the XPS range and it costs £1944.

£144 more expensive than the MacBook Pro.

Maybe because your comparing apples and oranges?

How so? The XPS machines have far superior graphics options anyway and are basically sold as dedicated gaming notebooks. The Vostro is a perfectly fair comparison. I don't doubt that the build quality etc is going to equal the MacBook Pro, but the price difference is alarming.

Come into the Mac Hardware/Software sections and you'll find we're not all pretentious, closed minded [insert appropriate expletive]. :)

I agree there. I look in the Mac forums a fair bit, purely because I find the platform quite interesting and it's nice to know what's going on; I have nothing against Macs themselves, I just prefer Windows. I've noticed that attitude of the users in there change (for the better) over the past couple of months. Earlier this year there was plenty of anti-PC/Windows nonsense being thrown around by a select few users, but they seem to have either gone elsewhere, or changed their attitudes.

Overpriced.

Not any more, my bro wanted a new sub notebook, I told him to get a macbook, Find me a small laptop (13" screen) with similar processor, ram and HD to a macbook for less price. As well as been cheaper it has the apple build quality, and style and as he is a student he gets money off (£80ish) and a free iPod nano. (£90)

Its not like i hate it, but what i find is that MAC lovers tend to have Blind faith or blind love towards them. As a result they say that Windows suck, etc etc. Even though there arguments are really shallow...

yeah but it really does work both ways. I think there is a lot to be said for both apple and pcs - they both do a job, in someways the same, in someways different.

Problem is that often when Mac users try to hold an argument with PC users they just get hit back with answers that stem from ignorance - and are usually wrong, which is what I think builds up the superiority complex and blind faith that a lot of Mac users have (and oh yes, we know it exists ;)).

What's the point in arguing with someone who doesn't want to listen?

Very true, the MacBooks are decent value for money, if you're a student at least. £700 (normal price) for a system without a DVD writer is a bit absurd, but similar-sized PC notebooks from Sony and the like seem to carry some crazy price premiums, and are a somewhat chunky.

The best PC equivalent is probably the Dell Vostro 1400. It's a 14" so it's a touch larger and heavier, but has twice as much RAM, a dedicated graphics chipset, and a larger HDD. Works out at £558, though you do forfeit the remote, and I'd imagine the Dell is a bit thicker and perhaps not quite as solid.

I think the main thing I find restrictive about Macs is the hardware selection. They have damn fast CPUs, but it often feels like the other options, like RAM, hard-drives and graphics chipsets are either expensive, outdated, limited or all of the above. I do appreciate the argument that 'if you're a serious gamer, a Mac isn't for you', but surely it'd be nice to have the option available?

I love my Mac, never had a kernel panic and it's a pleasure to use the OS.

For those complaining that PCs have a bigger library of software.. there's Bootcamp ;)

Using Bootcamp strikes me as a bit daft. It's like a vegetarian eating meat-flavour food.

Pretty much every Mac owner I know also has a either a PC or bootcamp installed, proving you can't do everything you need to on OSX. I used to have a Mac but started to get annoyed by not being able to do even simple everyday things like upgrade the firmware on my phone etc.

it is useful when you need specifics of a certain program that is only available on windows. useful for testing applications, websites etc as well without having to have a seperate physical computer.

Fair enough I didn't see the graphics.

But if the only difference between the 2 Dell laptops is graphics then Dell are charging £1000 more for 2 7800GT's which is frankly ridiculous.

Unless there is more to distinguish them than just the components...
