Why do people cheat in games?

(I've done a search as I'm sure its been discussed already but couldnt find it)

Why on earth do people cheat in online games?

I can understand cheating in a real life situation to increase reward but why cheat when what there is no real reward?

I just can't get my head around the need to inflate my stats artificially.


Only reason I ask is I just played a match against a squad of aimbotters shooting me across the map in rainbow six. So the inevitable rage quit led to this query.

Feel free to talk hypothetically if you use them yourselves.
 
It depends on the context, for example.

Back in the COD4:MW days, be and my friends found an exploit to jump through the map. You could still shoot other people but they couldn't get you.

Then again, we only messed about with this in the private match function, wouldn't consider doing it with public people. Part of it is just seeing how a game engine can be broken.
 
kiddies for the lols. they think it makes them 'cool'
you also have the mongtards who are just useless and have decided that rather than improving they'll pay for a cheat.
there's the super competitive bell's who just got to win at any cost
then you have csgo - that's cheaters on a whole other level - but then again there is a degree of financial reward in csgo (skins and such)
 
I have never understood it.

They must really suck at games to have to resort to cheating. If money was involved then I'd at least understand why they used them but it's a game.

that's not cheating as such - that's an exploit
 
i used to do pb admin stuff and one thing i have learned over many years is many cheat there is no distinction. your best friend to people who you know well.

there is no excuse i havent heard.

i used to check people on here laugh when they posted boasting yet see them on hacksites bans in other games.

so best thing is just play enjoy your game forget the tards ;)

Exploits I can get by utilising them you're inevitably alerting the devs to fix them after enough people rage.

Its more the ESP/Aimbot style cheating I'm referring to.


Pure interest Dg have any excuses stuck in your mind as comical?

Had a friend who botted on diablo 3 for over 2000 hours. Funny because even with that huge advantage he was still useless at the game compared to everyone who actually knew how to play it.
 
I don't cheat in Multiplayer, that's stupid

But in Single Player, if the game gets so hard in the end and i can't complete it, i might turn on God mode, or infinite ammo so i can see the end of the game and complete the story. To be fair through i haven't had to do that in a while because games are a fair bit earlier now than back in the day
 
People cheat because it gives them that little more advantage,But there are also other reasons why.

Im not afraid to admit i have cheated in a game called Warz,I played this game for a solid 3 years legit,then it started getting full of cheaters and the developers not doing anything about it..so if you cant beat em,Join em!

I used ESP only..,Not any of that aimbot or stuff that will get you detected quickly..i was ESP for 86 days before i was caught,And the only reason i was caught because i had enough of the game anyway and noclipped through walls. :D

I know just because someone else is cheating doesn't mean im any better by cheating myself,But if it makes any difference i was only killing other cheaters who were blatantly cheating via ESP...like they would spawn in,turn around and aim at you from a mile away and start running your way when your hiding in a house or something.

But its not something i would do again,like mentioned its stupid.

It's funny though as some of the people so adamant against cheating on here were caught doing it.

Who was that BF4 guy? 86JR or something?

best excuse i heard when being caught for a aimbot was he blamed vista :p
 
Does my head in. I'm a major titanfall player and its full of them and they are so smug with it. It's not to bad because I'm good enough now but noobs just get crushed which reduces the chances of them getting into the game and is slowly killing the game more
 
Ahh Will spoiling my rant :)

We've had a few members on the OcUK BF4 Platoon get done for cheating, the platoon gets pretty competitive now and again but it's just a laugh, I don't think any personal achievement gets awarded for "best this, best that etc etc".

:D trying to cover up there hacks by being so against them huh. It's a shame really too because some great games are just plagued into being terrible games because of these people.

GTA V Online/Diablo 3/Battlefield series/Cod series/Dayz&Dayz mod/Counter Strike series/World Of Warcraft/Elite dangerous/APB /ARK /Chivalry /Evolve /H1Z1 /WarZ /Insurgency/Killing floor 1&2/League of legends/Left 4 dead 2/Nether/Red Orchestra/Rust/Squad/Star wars battlefront/Team fortress/ War thunder/Payday 2

And i know there are going to be hundreds more but those are just some i can think of that have been IMHO ruined for everyone by people who can't play the game fairly. Thus wasting our money because i can't play any of those games online in public without encountering hackers.

Any time I see a cheater, I just leave.... unless they are really bad and still get owned, saying that, it isn't much of an issue in bf 4 when you are in a vehicle :p

EDIT:

Personally I don't care about all the cheating/modding in gta 5, most of the time, it is just people spawning vehicles/objects on the map, I'm not one to go around in free roam killing everyone I see though, I use passive mode and troll people instead so that might be why... :p

I think this also goes to show that the DICE/EA products used for catching & kicking hackers/cheaters isn't as good as they think if not completely useless. So much so, it requires 3rd party add-ons to do the same job - BF4DB for example!
