Why do you drink?

I rarely drink more than a couple of pints, I grew out of it at about the age of 16. Not a great point in drinking to or past your limit. I like to remember the night before.

What an utterly stupid thing to say:rolleyes:

Care to elaborate rather than ignoring an entire post and simply rolling your eyes at a single sentence. you have done it a few times now and is becoming rather troll like as I can't see what your opinion is on the subject.

do you drink and if not, why not?

Simply using the word "homo" by itself is enough to qualify as stupid with no further elaboration. ;)

I have to agree with starfighter on this am curious as to why people think its normal to do the opposite of what is considered the norm. To relax with friends and enjoy a drink, its been the cornerstone of society for 100s of years

Even if it was to say when i was 14 i drank 2l of cider and was sick in the park, therefore i have never touched it again.

i have a drink occasionaly to have a laugh but only at special occasions.;)
i dont drink to get drunk but to be merry.
there is nothing worse than a very drunk person.

exactly, surely there must be a reason. I don't like Omelettes even though I like all the ingredients because I was sick after eating one when I was younger.

The fact is that alcohol makes boring things more fun for most people. So why doesn't it for you? or are the downsides just too bad for the benefit it brings?

Are you really poor? a recovering alcoholic? or what. My bet is most people have had a bad experience or just have no friends to go out and get drunk with.

But use whatever lame excuse you like, your only lying to yourselves.

So why do boring things? You've only got one life - go and do something, with your many friends, which you can enjoy for the experience alone.

Alcohol is an anaesthetic, an insulator and an inhibitor. It makes things seem more 'fun' because it changes your personality.

Since I only recently quit drinking and previously would drink at every available opportunity, I feel I'm qualified to comment :).

I do drink,

But I don't judge normailty on wether people consume drugs or not.

Alcohol is a drug, some choose to take others don't.

Some do not drink for religious reasons. Some don't drink as it makes them ill, violent, dangerous.

Some don't like the taste,

Some people do feel the need to drink.

There are many reasons why people don't drink...Its not about being elitist or anything else.

Its about living your life the way you want.

Thats it.

You're either very young, naive and stupid to quantify normailty based on what the majority do.

I think think your are abnormal for suggesting that anyone who doesn't drink is a homo.

Stop posting guff.

For some its important for others not

Eh? There are millions of poeple with many friends that do not drink.

eh? Your are talking utter FUD.

I went out with some old friends from school so decided to try out drinking as they were all doing it and the first time I have been to a nightclub, I had quite a lot as I don't really know my limits, I felt quite drunk like couldn't walk straight, but felt ok really. I had to work the next day, so managed to recover quite quickly as I started work at 6. I thought it was better to drink than not as you relax more, but I probably wouldn't drink so much next time or mix the drinks so much. It certainly affected the run I went on today though I think.

So to sum up, I wouldn't want to drink for the sake of getting drunk, but the occasional drink is fine. And never the night before work again.:)

I agree to.
I was tee-total until the age of 40 and I thought myself weird because of it.

Why didn't you drink?

There must have been a reason for choosing not to drink for such a long time?

Thinking onself is not normal for not drinking is completely different to thinking others are not normal for not drinking.

I used to drink loads and loads from 10am until bed some days, I made a mess of every BBQ and family get together because I was drunk.

I needed to drink to get over what the drugs I'd taken in the years before had done to me bad anxiety and depression.

If I drink now I go on a bender and don't stop until I'm ill, I'm what you'd all call an alcoholic.

Now I drink water and tea and coffee and try to behave and thank god I have my wife and kids for support.

The roads long and I've failed a few times but I keep on keeping on.

A lot of people don't like taking drugs, what's so hard to understand about that?

Personally I find the taste of alcohol nauseating and for that reason I have never drunk it.

Good luck and hope you manage to stick at it! :)

Rock on bro, one day at a time.

I'm going to have to agree with Easyrider on this one.

I used to think people who didn't drink were boring squares with no sense of adventure, but now I don't drink I have done more different activities for fun than sit at a table drinking expensive applejuice until I feel different enough to have fun.

My view was coloured by my own experiences, is my point. Everyone I knew drank, because people who didn't couldn't stand me getting sloshed and talking rubbish, so I assumed people who didn't drink were few and far between. Perhaps you should meet some non-drinkers starfighter. At the very least, understand that your experience does not represent a hegemonic definition of normality.

Exactly,It's a personal choice and some people choose not to drink and do other stuff.

:)
