Why does everyone diss the Wii ?, step inside............

The only thing i dont like about the wii, is the resolution, while I appreciate that most people dont own HDTV's, on a big HDTV, the Wii looks rubbish.

(cue loads of fanboys saying "it looks great on my HDTV").

The wii is great on an old style CRT TV, ive tried it on a 42" plasma, a 40" LCD and a 55" RPTV, all with component cables, it looked a lot better on a 14" TV with av cables.

Sony are ripping people off? What on earth. The PS3 is doing much more than what the Wii can do, .

I was talking about the PSP at the same price as a Wii or even some mobile phones, small packages cost more to develop, if you say the Wii is a rip off then the PSP is a rip off too.
If you read up some industry knowledge you'll discover that Nintendo desperately wanted to release the Gamecube 2 at £99 but couldnt do it, also note they also use IBM and ATI for their chips and they have to strike a deal, they dont grow the CPU and GPU on trees for free, they could have quite as easily gone for more powerful hardware than the PS3, Nintendo actually have more experience in console hardware than sony amd microsoft put together.

look around you, your TV manufacturer makes more profit than Nintendo do on the Wii but you dont complain because it looks flash and is the thing to have.

The PS3 is subsidised heavily, so it can't be a rip off as such, but its still not the machine Sony promised and if you want good value get a friend to bring one back from the USA or import one from Hong Kong.

matsui fanboy LOL

Looks great by composite on my Samsung R7

Edit: do a poll, and you'll be surprised how many gamers here do own HDTVs, pop over to avforums (the US one) for a run down on how well the Wii looks on good HDTVs and projectors. There are also some great results with the Dreamcast on HDTVs too.

I was actually starting to wonder if my first wii was broken, everyone said it looked good, but its just looked rubbish on anything ive tried it on.

The Wii is the modern day board game, bringing families together for games that anyone can play. That's how I see it anyway :).
I think this is a good analogy and it's also probably the problem. How many board games do you have sitting in a cupboard somewhere or on top of a wardrobe which only get dragged out at christmas and then only for half an hour before they are put away after the usual arguments break out?

To me gaming has always been a way for me to relax and get some 'me time' to idulge in what I love. I run a business and have a busy family life, so when I game I want to get away from all of that and spend some quality time alone to enjoy whatever game I am into at the time. I like this time to be quiet - I guess this is part of the reason I have never liked using a headset and mic when playing online games... it just kind of gets in the way!

Oh yeah, and I'm a graphics hoar too... I just love the latest graphics and I guess I belong to the group of people who have difficulty looking backwards when it comes to games. Some people love retro games and to them graphics really don't matter but to others, like me, the graphics are an important eliment to what makes the game good and they even add to the overall experience.

In short, it offers people who enjoy single player games **** all, and call me what you like, i get a game for the single player, multi player is an add on for me, except in a game purely for online (MMO's, BF)

That is my problems with it.

What he said ;)

The games are cheaper than any other format

Thats just it the games are all £40 on the street - exactly the same as most MS or Sony titles.

You may not like it, you may think its overpriced (when some of those who think this can justify £400 for a PS3, irony++), but frankly the rest of the world, myself and many others on this forum, don't.

Its an excellent product at an affordable price and at present has titles that appeal to me more than either of the 2 most recent consoles.

.

People can justify the price of a PS3 because it isnt just a console to most who have already bought it, it comes in use as a movie / muic player also - I have 35-40 BR's already and always on the lookout for more I would like, considering a BR is as good as you will get in the flix with a lot more comfort etc, for roughly the same price (incl snacks etc :D )

Apart from that its more a question of time before Sony get AAA titles out, rather than IF - until that time a lot of people are still pretty happy with this kind of purchase.

The wii is only a console, it cant even be used as a dvd player (or did they change this?) and for what you are getting it is too expensive imo but the one off cost of the console is less importnat than the cost of each game which is definitely too high for a "low res" system - you can even buy brand new PC games for £20 (how much I paid for Dirt) and wii games cost twice as much - ridiculous pricing

Couldnt have said it better myself - admittedly I dont run a business but 20 or so financial analysts keep me busy enough thank you let alone the traders :D

In my opinion trying to compare a console to a handheld will always land you in trouble. the wii and the psp are completely differnet beasts (not to mention the cost of a relatively high quality lcd in the handheld that the wii doesnt have to cope with, the non standard umd drive compared to normal cd/dvd drive, etc etc etc all adds up in the psp's favour. I havent seen any cost analysis done on the PSP but I would doubt Sony are actually making any profit on the hardware even now , the wii however is pretty standard graphics and cpu, memory items in a different box.

Its undoubtedly a good machine, but the value for money just isnt there in the same way as a PS3 is imo (even now a basic br drive for a PC will cost you £130 or so, thats a 1/3 of the street value of the PS3 in one componant)

N could still have released it at £150 say (50% more than what they originallly wanted if you are correct) and to my mind they would be selling even more at that price to justify the difference (or at least the potential of someone buying another game - even more profit for them in that case)

Even I find myself agreeing with you on this...

I think the Wii has it's place, alongside your PS3/360 for some family entertainment..

I do agree with the notion that it's not really a single player console as such, the 360/PS3 are leagues ahead on that front..

But I still like it, have no intention of selling it, and as for my kids (3 and 1) I actually encourage them to play on it!...

I guess we share the same points of view when it comes to gaming - at least some of them anyway ;)

i sold my ps3 and keep the wii, but i do have a 360 so for me the PS3 wasn't worth it, maybe next year things will be different, the wii complements either a 360 owner or ps3 owner but maybe on its own you'll be wanting more from it

My Wii looks rife on my 32 inch HDTV via component. Still, it's good fun to play so while I'm actually playing the games I don't notice.

My only complaint with the Wii is the lack of games. It's been out 8 months now and we only have a handful of decent titles. It's just not good enough.

For what it is I think it's overpriced and reading constant reports about how Nintendo are currently basking in record profits only reinforces this belief.

Yeah, much more sensible to make massive losses...

I don't get why people think it is somehow a good thing for MS and Sony to be losing money hand over fist on their consoles.
