Why does everyone hate vista!!

bill gates said on the launch day vista is more secure, safer and easier but why are they in the rush to release service pack 1. they are more problems with it then they care to admit

obviously microsoft is relying on the "WOW" which equals HYPE to sell vista

how would a business company suppose to value new vista? i guess they would look at it and say WOW let's buy and install vista, it but microsoft obviously are not targeting businesses at all, but rather a naive pc user who is gonna bite the fish hook as soon as he sees it

hype sells don't you know and also wow sells and microsoft knows it

Well, I've read all of this. I'm no closer to wanting Vista. Then again I'm no further away either.

To put it simply I like my version of XP and don't see anything in Vista that is worth the money... Maybe in a year or so. Speaking of which could I kindly request all the people who have bought it early to do your best to break Vista and whine at MS so if and when I choose to obtain a copy it's got all the bugs worked out?

Thanks.

When I experience any bugs, I definately will ;).

I must admit, I haven't installed the release copy yet and I am basing all this on beta2 but I don't think there have been any major changes since then.

I found beta2 to be horrendous, slow, irritating and largely unusable.

But RTM is miles above it. And yes, I do like Vista - a lot in fact - I can't see it as an immense improvement over XP but it was choice to make the leap and go for it because I'm fun like that. Innit.

Has the interface changed much? I was under the impression that it hadn't. I really cannot stand the interface. Even the explorer window feels cluttered and confusing.

I think the 'wow' factor will come in when games start using DirectX 10, because thats the biggest thing about Vista. WinXP had DirectX running over the top of the operating system, which made for a slower experience (not that you'd notice, of course), whereas DirectX on Vista is integrated into the OS.

You can see how DX10 is integrated just by looking at the interface - the shiny windows, the transparent textures, the stacked windows when you Win-Tab, plus, all games I've run so far I can use the Win-Tab and they keep animating even in that state. Vista is like one big games machine waiting to happen. :)

Crysis, Alan Wake, Shadowrun, UT3, Flight Simulator X, Age of Conan.. all of them look visually stunning. The future looks bright, the future looks Vista. :D

People are always too quick to **** things off, then you generally see them praising it when everything is bedded in in a few months/years

Vista is impressive thats for sure. Good job. Problem is that people are associating it with XP when it doesnt deserve that.

I dont think many people are giving it a chance after XP lol. XP is pretty awful :p Vista really does fix the big issues with XP. Security, feel and stability.

That is news to me.

That is the biggest reason to boycott ( I.E. dont buy or use) Vista, it is exactly why the EU fined M$ the first time.

Dont u remember that the EU fined M$ for having outlook express embedded into the OS (amoungst other applications)? SP2 has a shortcut which says "Program Access and Defaults" which is exactly how to set other programs as the default. They had to produce a new version of win xp to be sold in the EU.

Even the most dim-witted noob must see that if they integrate dx10 into the OS then they are trying to force gamers who would otherwise shunned Vista into buying it? In any other context this would probably be highly illegal.

M$ are treating all PCs as their "consoles", i.e. force u to buy their "console" (i.e. Vista), to play games which u cant on other "consoles"; but the games are not made by M$ and M$ has no contract with the games deveolpers. It is just one monumental SCAM!

In my opinion, why fight it? People fought XP and now look at it.

Vista will become as mainstream as XP, simply for these reasons:

And in my line of work, where we help clients fix computers, and install new computers, it makes sense to get in on the ground floor with a new OS. Plus I'm really enjoying using Vista at home!

As for the security bugs, mine's only installed a handful of updates, and none of them have been security related so far.

'WHY I HATE VISTA'

'Yet even against the growing anti-drm chorus, Microsoft is launching the Vista Operating System which, aside from some new bells and whistles, and an increase in base hardware requirements,
is largely a platform for DRM, designed to serve Big Media companies more than individual computer users.

Vista represents a step backwards in users’ freedom, it is an “upsell” not an “upgrade”.

While user’s rights will be trammeled by the DRM and Treacherous Computing features of Vista, the collatoral damage will be environment as users are forced to abandon perfectly good hardware to meet the new requirements of Vista........generating tons of e-waste.'

Yes we all know that. That is not in question :)

The question is whether Vista is particularly wonderful compared to what it replaces. I think any hard-headed analysis of the real benefits of Vista compared to XP will leave you feeling underwhelmed.

Were there any immense differences between Win2k and XP pre SP1?

I think that XP with SP2 is a rock-solid, very reliable platform but before SP1 I bet people were saying the exact same thing.

That's why a lot of people shouldn't vote - so fickle :p
