Why does nearly everyone hate oblivion?

I wouldn't really call gt a game, more like a simulator like fsx is. They both have a lot of things in common, eg no crashes, even though they are called simulators and in real life you would be able to crash.

I can't believe people are saying this has no content. have you guys never played a hardcore RPG before... what do you expect, command & conquer?

Shivering isles though looks really good, the graphics are better and it has that feel of fantasy. Apparently also the gameplay has changed so that there is less linear quests...

Got to say I love it.

Morrowind got too boring for me as I was frustrated by the character data base style conversations.

The leveling on Morrowind was probably better but you become god like to easily IMO once you were able to enchant your sword.

Tried the oblivion mods? There are a lot that really balance the gameplay. :)

I have it for the PC and 360. At the moment I'm playing it through on the 360. The enemy leveling doesn't bother me that much really. I do miss the BT mod however :).

I fast travel mostly do to missions etc then fast travel to the place closest to the mission area if I can't get there. Mainly because I don't have time to walk about all day, same for Oblivion gates, they take so long. But yeah I still enjoy it.

I first played it on my old XP1600, GF3 system using "Oldblivion" to convert some of the graphics (shaders or something). When I upgraded to my current system I was amazed at how boring it still looked -ok I got nice swaying grasses etc but the dungeon areas didn't look any better imo. I stuck some graphical mods on & Obscuros levelling mod and it improved it a little. Actually the Obscuros mod improved it immensely.
I recently started playing it again and at first thought some of the texture mods had somehow uninstalled themselves. They hadn't -I'd just somehow imagined it looked better than it actually does.

It's alright I suppose but Morrowind is the better game imo. Much better.

I barely think it classifies as an RPG, let alone a hardcore one.

Oh, and the fact that even with Oblivion gates outside a town, people are still are complaining about mud crabs! I mean, you lose all immersion at that point. You want to grab them, and scream in their face, "look, forget the bloody mud crabs, there is great hordes of dreadra ready to burst through the gates any moment!!!".
Lmao, superb! :D

I think the problem is that it doesn't have the character or interest of rpgs that have come before it. Morrowind was bizarre. Even old school rpgs like Baldurs Gate, Planescape, are oozing with atmosphere. Really oblivion is completely normal. It's exactly what it should be, no more, no less. It's got swords, it's pretty, the usual races, the usual quests. But no flair I suppose.

Im doing some quest called "The Battle for Castle Kvatch" at level 5 and I have to go into the castle by myself and kill 3 guys covered in fire who kill me in 5 hits and take 20 hits with my Debaser (with no charge left) to kill each. Am I doing this quest too early or does this game just suck?

Actually your doing it too late, the game uses a scaling system whereby as you level up the creatures level up, this results in the game getting disproportionally harder as your level increases, meaning you can complete the whole game at level 1 but at higher levels it can be impossible.

I am convinced this quest is impossible at this stage, I just do too little damage and take way too much damage. And you're saying it will only get harder if I level up? I really don't know what to do now...

When i first played it i was blown away when you first go outside from the dungeon i thought it looked beautiful and i plaed for a solid 50hrs in six days and completed all the guilds done about a quarter of the story missions. And then due to some hard drive problem had to start again so i sulked for about 5 months not playing it and then recently tried it. I just laughed when i seen the graphics they werent amazing now and ever since i just cant get into it ive made about 3 characters and not gettting very far and well ive just given up :(

best game i've ever played period.
just got a new hard drive especially for it and am saving for an 8800 or r600 and widescreen monitor to do it justice.
the sheer content, mod community and tools available means i'll be happy for the rest of the year :D

used to be a huge shooter fan and fee paying clan member for bf2. not any longer. have'nt touched another game since xmas and am serously considering wiping all other games of my hdd!
