Why does the UK hate cyclists?

Like this, how is this cyclist going to pay for the damages caused here (genuine question, not being a smartass for once).

You think some who rides an illegal bike would buy insurance even it was the law? :D

That incident also ****** me off, as the victim was also at fault, but because she died that was just ignored. Crossing the road using your mobile phone, wtf.

What would we be saying if the cyclist had been riding a normal bike and a pedestrian walked in front using a mobile phone and the cyclist had died instead?

And how do they? Does the Gov foot the bill? Never pondered this before come to think of it.

As there's no private insurance involved I can only assume life insurance would pick up the bill. Government would foot the bill for prosecution.

I could be wrong (lucky enough to have never had an accident) but don't you have to foot the bill if you get hit by an uninsured driver?

No idea, but if I had to pay up because some law flouncing prat crashed in to me I'd cut him open and sell his kidneys to cover the costs.

Same way uninsured drivers do.

Side note had never realised lacking a front brake was illegal.
That fixie case was silly. Everyone got all hung up on braking distances and him lacking a brake, even though the distance over which he would have had to stop was tiny. If he’d met the legal requirements for brakes she’d almost certainly still be dead but there wouldn’t have been an open and shut way to throw the book at him. That being said, riding around on an illegal bike like that is stupid, like driving your car with bald tyres and terrible brakes - you’re an accident waiting to happen.

Mind you, even then, the laws on brakes are weird. If your saddle is less than 635mm from the ground then you only need one brake, so if you’re riding a BMX with the saddle way down then I think you’d only need the one brake.

Seems a weird bike for road usage regardless of braking. Costing seems much more preferable for road use. Especially when dealing with kerbs.

Ahh my bike is still legal then nice to know. Had been thinking about getting it back out been too long.

Not a bad idea to be honest but then it'll be just another warning that'll get ignored as it'll be going off all the time !
The same as you can put as many mirrors on a truck as you like... Doesn't mean the driver will check every one at the right time !

Yeah only really works when the vehicle is automated then it just becomes one of the many other things its planning its route on.

What lumen is a typical headlight, pretty sure my bike light is as if not brighter than most.

Edit. Googled it hid are about 3000 lumens so my 4600lumen bike light is brighter.
.

Want to be a bit careful with the whole get a bright a light as possible, if the light is too bright or dazzling it can make you harder to see.

There is such a thing as "useful lumens". A car headlight is much bigger and has a big lens focusing it.

it's depressing trying to get anywhere in the UK so it's no surprise everyone is so moody and looks for someone to take out their bad mood on whilst commuting.
cyclists are an easy target.

in Switzerland its sure more pleasurable to take a train/bus than to commute by car

I'm convinced our whole public transport even down the the layout of the buses/trains and stations is designed to put you in a foul mood long before you reach your destination and to ensure the hate for cyclists remains

I use a single speed fixie, it has front and rear brakes. It's great as you have no cost of

Shifters (have broken the £13 drop brake levers twice) If that was Shimano 105/Campagnolo Veloce that would have been £400.
No inner or outer cables
No front or rear deralleur
No cassette. Single speed sprocket is £5.
Chain, sprocket and chainring last longer than a multi-speed bike
No freehub/freewheel to fail.

Trust me if I had those two on the highest setting (which I don't as it's crazy bright) cars would be beeping me. But if you want to dispute how dim they are, you're more than welcome to shove your eyes in front of those lights and keep your eyelids open till the batteries go down.

Let me guess, you don’t use the main Southport road because it’s too busy? Cry me a river, why do you think the cyclists are on the back roads?
I don't take the main Southport road because the route just isn't as fast.. And it is significantly more dangerous..

It’s classic anti cycling bilge. Your lights aren’t bright enough so I drove into you! Your lights are so bright I was dazzled and so I drove into you!

Then don’t whinge when your rat running on the back roads doesn’t work out.
Why do you have such an abhorrent attitude towards people on this forum? Have you ever heard of etiquette?

You couldn't get away with speaking to anyone like that face to face..

Get over yourself. You’re the one who can’t deal with other road users.

For the record, I suppose you’d be quite happy to talk to cyclists with the derision you use here, yes? I’m round your way sometimes, I’ll come and ride one of your country lanes and you can shout at me through the sunroof while I’m holding you up for miles on end.

Motorists are in charge of a device that can easily kill cyclists, when their vehicles are used in aggressive manner. Most people will stop if they cause damage to other road users, but you also get those chancers who will either flee the scene, or pretend to leave their details on a parked vehicles windscreen while writing something like, "I'm writing this note so anyone watching thinks I'm leaving my insurance details." ;)

;)

Quote each one of my posts, none show contemptuous ridicule or mockery... I can deal with road users and do on a daily basis.

how can you defend the way you treat people after lines like this?

“Many if not most”, eh? I’m sure that can be corroborated with something besides your own personal confirmation bias.

Except actual studies testing that show that hi vis doesn’t improve visibility. Like, actual science, not just you typing words on a forum.

Last you heard? Where on earth did you hear that? Better call every motorcyclist ever.

Let me guess, you don’t use the main Southport road because it’s too busy? Cry me a river, why do you think the cyclists are on the back...

I don’t believe you. And if I did I’d suggest you find an alternate route. Yours is clearly not fit for cars.

Obviously ********.

That or you are absolutely the world’s most useless driver, without any overtaking ability, or wit to find an alternative route to get you past this veritable peloton that besets you every day.

Lol. Not a chance you are held up for 40 minutes a day by cyclists. Not a chance. Let’s see the dash cam footage. That is obviously ********.

You are a ridiculous hypocrite who's posts seethe with "derision".. Stop being such an antagonistic self worshiping imbecile.
