Personally I would love the bottom one if I get another 360, but I know many, many more people on these forums would like something like the top one for their PS3's.

Surely third party peripheral makers are missing the boat here!!!

Let's not turn this into a discussion about which controller is better, as it's quite clear that it's down to personal preference. But the 360 pad does suck and the DS3 is the greatest controller EVER! ;) :D :p

I'd buy PS3 in an instant if the top one was commercially released, can't get on with DS3/SixAxis analogue sticks, bloody awful things, feel so cheap and tacky.

I'd have to have the 360 buttons aswell though, why mess with perfection?

Probably licensing issues with the designs?

Well Logitech make similar looking controllers as both the above for the PC - they are just different enough to avoid legal action. Why couldn't they make them for consoles as well?

I don't mind my DS3 but I wouldn't mind trying out a 360 controller on some of the ps3 games. I've never really sat down and played with a 360 controller for a long period of time.

The controller is really the major thing stopping me getting a PS3 at the moment. 2 years of using frankly the best controller ever designed to date, I know I definitely wouldnt get on with the six axis' light weight. Im waiting for the DS3 to come standard as thats the only thing I think I could stand.

I don't see why anyone would ever sacrifice the 360 pads ergonomics for the six axis design , stick placement and triggers so I doubt there's any demand for that which is why no one's done it yet. No idea why the 360 pad for ps3 hasn't been done yet though.

It's mad isn't it.
I do prefer the weight of the DS3 over the weight of the 360 pad though.

Well obviousley someone prefered the DS3 to the 360 pad otherwise why would they have bothered modding it? See second photo

Like I say it's personal preference, although I do agree that more people seem to prefer the 360 pad but that doesn't mean there isn't a market for the DS3 style on 360.

the controllers on each benefit the types of games i play on each

in my opinion the 360 controller is the best console fps pad available

and the dualshock is good for action/adventure games

both are great for racers [although i do have those trigger extentions on my ds3]

i think thrustmaster make an ok pad for the ps3 but i have never used it for an exteded session

having the benefit of both consoles i always tend to buy multiplatform releases depending on which console the game would feel/work best on in my own opinion

for instance - recently i have brought

R6V2 for 360 - due to the pad being better for the game and live being better for the online

burnout for the ps3 due to the pad being smaller and better suited imo for racers

gtaiv for ps3 as i prefer the dualshock for gta style games

I suspect it is because they don't also need to pay license money in order to get it to work with said system and advertise it as working for that system.
To release a product that works with the PS3, and is advertised as such (even on the packaging) they would need to obtain a license, and Sony will probably have in it some where regarding infringing other companies designs or sommit, which would poo poo it.

I should have said who would want en exact replica. I'd understand if they want the shape but with convex triggers for example.

A lot of mods are done "because they can be done" though.

I do prefer the weight of the DS3 over the weight of the 360 pad though.

The 360 pad sits better ion the hand and has better triggers, but as you say the DS3's weight is better, i think the rumble is better as it is slightly more subtle, also the charge time on my 360 pad is cack.

But it's easy to play with it charging too.
I also find my battery time lasts longer on my Xbox360 because the PS3 pads don't automatically turn off after 'x' minutes and I watch a lot of DVD's :p.
