But to be honest, if you wanted a Matte screen, the iMac would never even cross your mind, but yeah, you wouldn't have much of an option (Mini, MBP or Pro).

You are not comparing "apples with apples" excuse the pun.You are comparing i3-i5 imacs with i7 macbook pros.
Wheres the macbook pro that beats my 2.93 Ghz i7 imac??
If you have a pre-2011 iMac then the *current* 2011 i7 MBP is faster as far as I know.
The newer SB based iMacs should be a bit quicker though.

Aye. The speed increase with SB is impressive. I mean, the i7-2600 is battling it out with the 980x (which is a six core, so in things that benefit from multi threading, it nods ahead).

The screen is surely much nicer on an iMac?
Particularly now you have smartphones for web browsing, emailing etc, the portability of laptops is less necessary.

Ok i stand corrected,but its still new spec vs old spec.What are the new SB iMacs doing?
Doesn't appear to be any geekbench scores up for any 2011 iMacs yet. But they'll be a significant boost over the Lynnfield chips and any dual core clarkdales in the lower spec'd iMacs.
Depends on what you do for a living and how you use your machines really doesn't it? For me, having the ability to run my demo suite of 6 or 7 servers *in portable form* is invaluable. The stuff I work on is incredibly hard to demo/investigate remotely due to real time components (voice/video).
