Why have people voted for Boris?

I don't know, I find it quite fitting. London is an odd place at the best of times, Boris is fairly odd, they seem to go hand in hand.

:D

To be fair the sort of life led by Ken Livingstone doesn't really give him any great insight in to the lives of ordinary Londoners. Unless they jet off to communist countries on a regular basis...

Yeah fair point. London did have candidates like that ex police officer who probably had a better idea about life as a Londoner then the likes of Boris though.

I guess there's a nice flip-side here; Labour got what they deserved.

I would rather have Boris than the vast majority of politicians. He might not be gifted in twisting what he has to say so that he never actually has to answer a question, but at least he is up-front about who he is etc unlike the slimy eels that usually run the show.

Ken has always been equally as up front with his views, and has never backed away from potential conflict with his own party.

Boris has won because he is Boris Johnson, which is a rubbish reason, and that the Tories are on the up at the moment, that's it. I doubt he will be a better mayor than Ken Livingstone has been.

K livingstone has pandered to the hippies and loony left for far too long, I'm not saying that Boris is ideal but at least he will stand up to the vocal minorities

It's time the silent majority in this country had their say

While Boris may be right wing, he has had a privileged education, and I suspect will be just as reluctant to 'stand up' for Daily Mail readers/OcUK forum lot/armchair warriors as everyone else is.

a better question is why are there 69,000 small minded bigoted racists in London

If other partys see BNP etc getting an increasing percentage of the vote to threatening levels then they will begin to know there is massive unrest within the public with the current state of politics in the country.

Well they got, what, 2% this time. So I think we're OK, if they overtake the green party I might think about worrying...

note the 'etc' after BNP.
Green party being one of these smaller partys which has probably gained a bit more?
A healthy government is one without a ruling majority is it not?

As I said in the other post Borris doesn't know what the hell he is doing, his advisors are gonna be running London and not him. The only taxing decisions Borris will make are what to dress in today.. Borris belongs back in the zoo.

The only good thing about all this is Labour got badly kicked in the teeth today, and rightly so.
