Why is filling up with diesel so messy??

ive only ever filled up a petrol, whats the difference when filling up, does it come out differently or something? (apart from it been diesel obviously)

I fill up with both petrol & diesel, i never get it allover the pump or spill any of either allover the place both to me seem the same, apart from i always end up with someone elses spillage allover my hands after filling up with diesel.

Now when filling up with veg oil, that can be messy, but thats a bit harder to get into the tank in 3 Litre bottles. :D

different cars i trust? =D

lol, yep. I aint made the wrong fuel mistake yet.

They should put sensors in the pump handle & if anyone gets any diesel on the handle it should give them a mild electric shock, that'd make 'em more careful.

Why can people not fill up their cars without getting diesel allover the place?

Every single time without fail no matter what fuel station i go to theres always fuel allover the pump nozzle/handle :(

I don't have this problem when filling up with petrol, only diesel.

It's a right pain in the arse if i'm going out or to work as it takes ages to get the smell off your hands.

Where I live it's moderately cheaper to get your diesel over the border (about 5 mins away), handily none of the petrol stations there are self service so I've not had to touch a petrol pump in at least 5 years!

The ensuing fireball would also make them more dead. Along with everyone else filling up at the same time :D

At least they wouldn't do it again though? :)

I find the diesel ones messy as well, luckily I only need to use it for the work van.

Saw quite possibly the worlds most stupid woman trying to put fuel in her car the other day. To start with she had parked her car the wrong way round and had to pull the nozzle round to the far side of her car. She got it a few inches from the car and started spraying fuel all down the side of her car and herself. Pretty daft im sure you'd agree, but did she stop? nope, just started shouting "Oh Nooo, Aaaaa!!!" and eventually realised that releasing the trigger stopped the fuel .
She then, without attempting to get the nozzle any did the same thing a couple more times, couldnt beleive the sheer stupidity she was displaying, the guy in the garage eventually cut the pump off and came over to sort her out.

did you think that through? like... at all?

Yes, once it's happened a few times & made the news about people blowing themselves up then in future all diesel users would handle the pumps like a live grenade with a dodgy pin.

No more mess :)

It's it just the simple fact that diesel doesn't evaporate, at least not as easily as petrol?

And lots of people that use fuel pumps are complete ***** and don't know how to fill their cars up. :p

People are generally messy. I always leave the pump in the hole  that little bit longer so the last drips get out instead of going down the car and all over my trousers :p
