Why is it i'm finding myself...

Underwriters @ Flux just emailed me back with my quote.

£865 FC, which i think is fantastic.

They only asked for claims within 3yrs, which is a bonus for me as the claims i had (bar 1) were from 4years ago.

Going to call up a bit later on to confirm the price, and get the quote saved, then i'll start looking for a car. Only downside is my 2nd yrs NCB doesnt come until March (end of) so i'll have to wait until then to get the car on the road.

Doesn't stop me looking at some, and buying one if the right one comes along.

Phil, have you even bothered shopping around for insurance?

I have a claim from 4 1/2 years ago, and even in Ireland, I managed to find 4 or 5 companies that would quote me. There must be 10s that will quote you.

Try www.quinn-direct.com first of all, then do lots of ringing around ;)

You don't have a car - how can you be acruing NCB?

If you suspend a policy, you still build NCB.

Phil - also try churchill, they only ask about claims in last 3 years.

Some nice suggestions there Andy, but i'm still really off the idea of them for some reason.

It seems to have "fun" and buy a car that i could, if i wanted to, modify a little, i'm looking at a slightly older car at prices a little higher than they would normally be, however seeing as i have finally come to the conclusion that it is a toy, as Fox says, i can make that compromise :)

Off to look at a Starlet Glanza V next weekend, first one i've come across that isnn't either littered with dodgy aftermarket parts, or a complete dog condition-wise.

Wish me luck :)

Well, for various reasons (one being financial) i'm moving away from the Glanza idea. Its simply too small for what i need as well, i saw on eth eother day in the flesh and realised it would be too small for my needs.

Went to look at a friends 206 GTi the other evening, its an '00 (X) which has done 46k. The car really is immaculate, has some nice toys (Climate control :D) and i've always liked it.

Going back for another look but to be honest, after all the headaches ive had i'm liking the idea of this.

Ok, so its not a "hot hatch" but it one car i've always liked. He's offered to change the cambelt, oil and put 12 months MOT on it too which is a bonus :)

Have only got pics on my phone, but you all know what a 206 looks like anyway :)

Plus I bet the 206 will have more problems than the Glanza. My Mums last car was a 206, even having problems when it was sub 3 years old, useless cars.

At these prices...

There practically giving the things away these days it seems, I was considering a ZT a year ago and looking the the prices for MG's that you and FOX have linked it may well beback on the shoppping list, forget the terrible fuel economy at these prices they are a steal!

Seriously, what are you playing at? First you say you don't NEED a car and that its a toy. Then a Glanza is 'too small' for your needs. I thought you didnt have any needs? You've managed without a car for months.

Now you've decided on a 206 GTi? They are rubbish - they really are devoid of any merit. They are not very fast, they do not handle, and they have the most awfully built dash known to man using plastics so nasty you wont even find them on a cheap Sainsburys microwave. Why would you want a 206 GTi? Whats the point?

It's a, or was when it was new, Yuppy wife shopping trolley with a posh GTI badge. It's nothing more.

And it carrys no more people than a Glanza!

The 206 gti should have never been given a gti badge!

The 206 gti180 isnt too slow in a straight line but I still think it had handling problems.

I'll keep my 306 gti6 though even that has dreaded dash board rattles. When you buy French cars you expect these rattles though :) I just gave my 6 a new lease of life recently. I fitted Bilstein Sprintline shocks all round with Eibach pro springs up front. When having the clutch changed I had a lightweight flywheel and crank pulely fitted along with a nice set of shiny new camshafts :D power is up from 167 to 197@ the fly now and was making 170 @ the wheels, also made an extra 20 ft/lb torque. It's a whole new beast and pulls through the rev range much faster.

You must watch out for when the cambelt was last changed if you do even think about a 306 gti6 though as they have a tendancy to snap between 30-40k miles.

There are a lot of cars out there though for you to strike off of your list. We all have our own favourites, noe you jsut need to find yours. Like Fox has said you want a car you get out of and smile as you have enjoyed your drive, my 306 does that for me every time, though the g/f doesn't appreciate the firmer ride etc.

A Porche Cayenne is a yuppy wife's shopping trolley, a 206GTI is just a cheap plastic pile of rubbish which daddies buy for their daughter when she passes her test or 19yo kebv buys when he gets his gardenning job and a years ncb - drive past henley college on a college day and you will see tons of them :(

Phil W STOP looking at these rubbish cars! Try loads of insurance companies, insurance really isnt as bad as people make out. £4000 buys some half decent cars, not rubbish peugeots.

Worst. Car. Ever.

You need to have the body of a monkey with equal arms and legs just to be comfortable in the driving position, it's that bad! Never mind the reliability!

You would be much better off with Ford Focus which is an enjoyable car to drive even on 1.6 and it's a big leap from the one you had.

I said when it was new. In 1998. 10 years ago.

Giving it too much credit, even when it was new it was still a rubbish plastic peugeot, i dont know many women old enough to be married and be classed as a yuppy who would drive a peugeot :p

Hey less of the rubbish :p I shall give it to you that it is still a Peugeot but how many 306 gti 6's do you see on that same run? There more than likely are better cars though for that price dependant on what you are looking for in a car.

I just like to think the rattles etc add character to my 6 :D at least that is what i tell myself daily on starting it - I really shouldn't have fitted a stiffer uprated lower engine mount!!!
