GordyR said:Secondly you are all blaming your metabolisms. Again, incorrect.
A persons metabolism is determined mostly by their eating habits. ...your eating habits which make by far the biggest difference.
Think of your metabolism as a furnace. The more you feed it, the harder it burns. The less you eat the slower it becomes. It's a natural mechanism designed to promote fat storage in times of famine.
Obese people have on average the fastest metabolisms. Quite simply because they eat a lot of food very frequently. This is why dieticians recommend 5-6 smaller meals a day. Rather than the traditional three.
...and I'm going to resort to quoting myself.Volcs said:Everyone posting complaining about their metabolic rate - you do realise that this is not a set thing? So stop making excuses.

Things That Affect Your Metabolic Rate:

Age - Your RMR decreases with Age A decrease in your RMR can be due to genetics.
The Weather - Living in a cold enviroment can increase your RMR. I know this sounds strange but you expend more energy while moving around in cold weather. It's a a lot easier to move around in summer but more of an effort to "get going" in winter.
Meals - Small regular meals will increase your RMR.
Pregnancy - It can increase your RMR.
Crash Dieting - It will decrease your RMR.
Supplements - Some supplements can raise your RMR.
