Why is it that I can guzzle down food almost all day and not get fat?

I've always had a slow metabolism, but today I've had:
- 2 Oatibix with raisins and chopped banana
- Orange
- Banana
- One bottle of water (one when I get back as well)
- Sandwich with granery bread, cheese, cucumber and tomato.
- A good meal when I get home

Exercise I'm quite good, walk home from college 3 days a week which takes 20mins (I'm a very fast walker). I do a 2 hour paperound Friday. At college we have 2 sets of 2 hour practicals working with livestock and ecology so we're always walking around etc. Work on Saturdays and Sundays as well and I'm always moving about.

I don't eat that much, but I put on weight easily :o (I'm 17, 9.4stone, 5ft 10)

I have a slow metabolism, exercise with hard cardio 7-10 hours a week, and I am 17 stone.

Very frustrating, that said id rather be extremely fat and heavy than out of shape and 12 stone.

Cereal, two Marks and Spencer caramel bars, two veggie burgers in bread, half a chicago town pizza and wedges, 5 cookies, half an easter egg, one slice of Mr kipling cake and 2 litres of juice.

thats so far lol

EDIT Im 16 , 17 in july/

Not a lot of food at all. Although your diet is pretty terrible :\

Normally thin people are more active, they can't sit still for 5 mins. You may walk about a lot without realising it, if your not sat on the sofa or watching tv for hours and hours you will be burning up calories.

By the way, eating loads of rubbish and being small, weak and unhealthy is nothing to brag about.

If you were more like this, I would be impressed:

Nope, not at you at all mate :)

Your diet is actually pretty good, I was referring to the thread starter. There isn't really a "right weight for your height", people with thicker bone structures are much heavier on the whole. Mike Tyson and my best friend are the same height, but very different weights for instance, whilst both being fit and healthy.

damn right. Im like that (sort of) i dont eat cakes and junk food a lot but i still eat it. At the moment im doing a fair bit of cardio but still eating the stuff i like.

The killer is beer. I bet he doenst go out much and have 8 or so pints, some spirits then get a takeaway on the way home. Thats a killer for turning into a tubba!

Everyone posting complaining about their metabolic rate - you do realise that this is not a set thing? So stop making excuses.

Copy and paste alert!

Things That Affect Your Metabolic Rate:

Muscle - More muscle increases your RMR, (resting metabolic rate)

Age - Your RMR decreases with Age A decrease in your RMR can be due to genetics.

The Weather - Living in a cold enviroment can increase your RMR. I know this sounds strange but you expend more energy while moving around in cold weather. It's a a lot easier to move around in summer but more of an effort to "get going" in winter.

Meals - Small regular meals will increase your RMR.

Pregnancy - It can increase your RMR.

Crash Dieting - It will decrease your RMR.

Supplements - Some supplements can raise your RMR.

I read the first page then had to hit "reply".

Do you people just eat **** all the time? I thought the 5 a day campaign was ridiculous; that of course people ate enough fruit and vegetables. But it's all utter crap.

Are my family unusual in that meals are actually prepared from real ingredients? My day would be:

Cereal, often something healthy like muesli without sugar. Apple/banana. Water/orange juice.
Lunch is often jacket potato + beans, or a sandwhich etc. Sometimes pizza if I'm lazy.
Dinner varies (the dad is in charge of that). Almost always proper meals though. Chilli, risotto, stir fry, stew, meat pie + veg, caesar salad are recent meals that I can remember.

And never coke. What's the point in coke. Drink some ****ing water if you're thirsty.

am i eating enough?
I like you. You have dinner and 'supper' :D

Looks like you eat a lot, from that list. I wouldn't be concerned about eating too little. If you want to bulk up there is lots of information about. Adding more protein to your diet might be a start.

As someone earlier said it's your fast metabolism. I'm the same although i'm 27, and I can still eat loads and not put on any weight. My weight tends to hover around 10 1/2 stone (i'm about 5 foot 10/11). I do tend to eat fairly healthily, hardly any junkfood but I can eat loads and not really put any weight on. I also have quite a fast heartrate which might also be a contributing factor, always have done although I understand it'll probably slow down as I get older. :)

Today I ate 3 slices of cheese on toast, and a packet of softmints. Will have some pie and chips later as well.

Might explain why Im 6' and 9 stone!

This thread makes me realise that so many people out there really do not have a clue about diets, and for some reason believe that a small amount of food is 'loads'. An overwhelming number of people here are simply putting it down to their 'metabolisms'.

4 wholemeal toast for brekie
2 nan bread and 2veggie sausages for lunch
punnett of strawberries (make that half a punnett, i full :() and packet of doritos for dinner

this has been a dodgey day :/

Im by no means "weak" as u put it.. I recently did a bike ride from Ashford - London and from Ashford - Brighton...

I also run for our district in the sports tourneysssss

Yea my diets Horrible..

but no.. not weak lol

I used to be like this at one point, i'd eat & eat and just put on no weight at all, at one point i was 6'4" and was only 9st 2lb, that was when i was 18.

When i stopped growing vertically though i started growing horizontally and managed to go to 14st 7lb in well under a year.

Stayed around that weight afterwards & i'm now 24, seems about the right weight for me tbh.
