Why is steam so BIG!

I have to agree - when Steam first came out - I was a bit anti ...

but same as you - last 4 re-installs of windows - I havent' bothered finding the discs - some of which have probably been eaten by my 3 year old - I just leave steam to download and install them over night - and voila

I own HL2 and EP1. I backed them up using the back up system and deleted all local content, but there's still 4.2 gb worth of stuff in there! Seems to be source files. So even with no games it takes up space.
 
I had my games backed up on an external drive , but as soon as i went to install them Steam kept crashing , its taken me over 3 weeks to install all my games :P

Pretty damn reasonable. Dunno why people hate Steam really, I think its a damn good product, and doesn't slow down my system at all.
 
55.63gb here mine isn't as big as some of the others :( erm........ hang on better rephrase that lol

Anyway... i've just had a look at my steam files and checked the games you have installed and 13gb sounds about right.
 
Well i've managed to install all my games now

total: 90GB - Thats just Steam ,not inc any DVD's
 
wow, I just remembered after reading this, I have a steam account. And I downloaded Half-life, Half-life 2, X2, CS and CS Source. lol, I should probably re install steam and get playing. I havent for years, I'd forgot all about them!
 
For steam alone, I need a new HDD. Mines only 250gb so with steam plus other things especially on Vista, my space runs out pretty quick. I have two external HDD 250gb and 500gb but really I need a bigger internal one.
 
I used to have a HUGE garrys mod folder, with tons of addons as i used to make some quite advanced and complex spaceships, automated orbiting satellites/weapons platforms etc.. so i ended up with tons of addons to have everything i needed.

Problem was i havnt played it for the last few months, and when i came back to it after this latest major version upgrade, it was bugged, i had no tool gun or super mavity gun, so ended up deleting it and all the addons :(
