Why is there nothing like quake or timesplitters around anymore?

Aside from Quake of course, I've never heard of the others. *Goes off to have a google*. :)

Well since the engines all the Quake games were built on were open sourced a splurge of clones was practically inevitable. A lot of them are pretty fun though, if you're fast enough ;)

Nothing on idTech 4 yet...

Timesplitters 2 & 3 were so good.
The level editor, for all it's limitations was brilliant - what console FPS since has brought a real level editor where you could actually make properly original fun maps ?
The game was so customisable & all the setup was done on about 2 screens - shows just how bloated the menu systems on modern games have become.

Perfect Dark Zero was an utter abomination :p :o

Nar, was an excellent game till Elvis came into it (N64 version anyway - Xbox one was poor) but the Timesplitters team greatest work was Goldeneye N64 - that was one of the greatest FPS ever ... that damn cradle on OO was so hard!

What I would give for a remake of Unreal Tournament. Just a graphics and physics update. The game was near perfect for multiplayer madness.

I also miss instagib which for those who don't know is a one shot kills perfectly accurate weapon/game mode, theres nothing like this around in any modern games as far as i know, since the multiplayer games of old i've noticed how weapons have become more and more annoying to add 'realism', you have larger bullet spread if you move and recoil as you shoot pushing your view upwards, sure perhaps it adds an element of skill but it arguably takes just as much to hit a moving target with the same weapon as you who wants to kill you before you do him, where it all comes down to pure accuracy and timing, theres nothing like it.

I remember sitting on the first Timesplitters for hours on end with my friend in the biggest AI battle you could have on some strange map :p. Even though it was so long ago I still remember it having more interesting map design than now a days.

Thinking back now that game has aweful graphics but amazing gameplay.
