Why no pc version of call of duty 3?

It doesnt, it looks impressive on a CRT monitor off ebay for £40, as did the Dreamcast 7 years ago.
My PC doesnt need a projector but I still take a resolution hit and have some proper big screen gaming, the ultimate gaming accessory for any platform IMO.

as for 50" of HD goodness thats just even more confusing, how can a console which most of its gamers will state was bought due to the overpriced and overcompicated nature of upgraded a pc need a tv costing more than your most hardcore of gaming rigs?

You appear to have missed the point. I didn't get a 360 'due to the overpriced and overcompicated nature of upgraded a pc', I got one because I like to kick back on the sofa and game on a large screen. It wasn't to replace PC gaming, as I have already said, I still game on my PC.

Also, who said you NEED a TV costing more than a hardcore gaming PC? I happily played on a 28" CRT before getting my DLP.

mm i thought 360 was directx 10 ie. thats why it's called 360 == full circle of the direct x series ?

might be wrong tho.

cheers.

Yes it is DirectX10 in the sense that it uses UNIFIED SHADERS. I am not sure whether it uses the same code set for the GFX chip as DX10 though but i guess it would make sense if it did.

The RSX IS an early chip which shares technology with the R600 however, it is probably also true when ATi say it is roughly as powerful as an X1800XT or whatever the guy said above. Just because it is DX10, doesn't mean it is more powerful than the PC DX9 cards. It just means it processes things in a different way, ie: using UNIFIED SHADERS (plus a few other differences, if indeed it is fully DX10 etc.)

I can never understand this graphics pc v console. The graphics and animations in cod3 far outweigh anything that the pc can do at the moment. This coming from someone that does nothing but game on PC. Some people really do need to remove their head from their backsides and maybe acknowledge that sometimes the consoles have the upper hand. And the way the online communities are developing these on days xbox live is getting ever more attractive.

I think that the graphics are only half the equation , playability also counts for a lot, im not a fan of FPS on a console but PES on the PS2 is far more enjoyable than on my PC.
GTL at full settings at 1600x1200 4xAA/AF is great on my PC but 2 player Grand Tourisimo on my widescreen telly is also just as enjoyable.
Drunken Saturday night Fight Night or a bottle of wine and COH online?

any decent up to date pc with a powerful gfx card
(unless u decide to be a fool and run it at 640x480 with everything off...including the monitor)

One day, VBulletin will come with an automatic crap filter, so half the crap in this thread wouldn't make light of day.

I agree with everything DreXel says. Those turning this thread into a PC vs XBOX360 thread need to reconsider that both are aimed at different markets.

Can I cram myself and three friends around my PC desk in comfort to play a game? NO

Can PC illiterate people manage to install a game onto a PC, setup the resolution, patch it to newest patches, trouble shoot driver problems etc? NO

Can you pop a CD into a XBOX360 and play? Yes, although it does auto update.

However, I've sold my PC due to upgrading and I'm posting from a laptop and I'm missing my PC gaming as playing RTS, FPS and the like feels like home on a PC.

I'm enjoying my XBOX360 for what it does best, and thats arcade fun with friends and family on a 20" HDTV. However this gen of consoles have done a fantastic job at bringing games out that I would only usually find controllable on a PC to the living room.

As for COD3 looking better on a PC. You can't guarantee that, unless you can see into the future. Also name a PC for 300 quid that can display COD3 at full settings with no slow downs?

A PC enthusiast with top end gear represents less than 5% of the PC market. Not everyone has SLI machines at home, far from it.

In summary: Console market != PC Market.

I loved COD1, was expecting more with COD2 but enjoyed it none the less. I havent played 3 cos I dont own a 360 (yet), and I hear Infinity Ward werent behind the 3rd game so I'm not too fussed really - seems to have mixed reviews too. I'm more interested in what the original devs (Infinity Ward) come up with next. Just hope they can raise the bar and not bring us the exact same game with better graphics again.

I can't see if anyone actually answered the OP's original question so here's what I heard...

COD3 was developed by Treyarch exclusively for consoles. Treyarch had previously developed COD2: The Big Red One for consoles last year. Apparently there was some confusion about COD2 for PC and The Big Red One being two different games so Activision have changed their naming conventions.

COD4 will be developed by Infinity Ward, the creators of the previous 2 PC versions of Call of Duty.
