Why PC gaming? Advantages over console?

There is games I prefer on the PC. There is also games I prefer on consoles.

My solution have them both. win win then :)
That pretty much sums it up for me. I'm primarily a console gamer, as I prefer the comfort of my couch to my PC chair, but I have a good spec PC and a top spec laptop arriving this week. There are games that just work so much better on the PC, stuff like Civilization and Footy Manager, that I simply couldn't go without.

I never understood this, people who argue they'd rather sit on a sofa with a controller than on a PC chair hunched over a keyboard, you don't have to be, PC's can just as easily be hooked up to most modern TV's and all have controller support, for more than just one type of controller too. Why would you rather game on your console than your PC if you can do them both from your sofa?

I can understand exclusives, or not having enough money for the hardware, both of which are good reasons to own a console, but beyond that there aren't any advantages to a console, unless you enjoy bad graphics and slow framerates.

I don't want a PC in my living room is the simple answer.

As for bad graphics and slow framerates, that's a fairly subjective view tbh, and not something that has ever spoiled my enjoyment of a game.

As for the "no advantages to a console", that's a typical PC fanboy opinion IMO. There are several advantages to a console, but as we're in the PC forum, I can't really be bothered trying to argue them. I'm happy saying that both PCs and consoles have their pros and cons, and leaving it there.

I've used my gaming rig on a TV for years and am happy to do so, but it isn't the same as a console when it comes to ease of use. Take Steam - we've only just got a decent (beta) interface for gaming with a joypad and sitting on a sofa, and even then you have to get into Windows first. In reality you have to get get everything ready using a mouse and keyboard and then sit down to game - it just isn't the same.

I have a PC connected to the TV that I use for games that natively support the 360 pad and are games you're better of playing with a controller. I've got it so Steam Big picture starts when I enter Windows which nullifies the need for KB&M but there are some annoying games that either open launchers that have things like Start, Options, Exit etc which I have to make macros for and even worse are games that use uplay which opens a box where you have to click play and then you have to click another button when you finish the game to get back to big picture and my macro programming skills aren't that good :p.

Console= good games, good software, a lot of people playing it, co-op/splitscreen
PC= amazing dedicated games, brill services/software, better graphics, mods, dedicated servers, and the feeling you get when ya' have a sleeping beast sitting on your bedroom desk.

I think PC gaming works out quite a bit cheaper as well. I don't think i've spent over £30 on a game since i stopped playing my 360 and I've played most of the big titles that came out over the last couple of years. I find it amusing that when a new game comes out it's £40 for a 360 version and max £30 for the PC version (unless your name happens to be Blizzard).

PC gaming because of better graphics & performance + a mouse and keyboard.

BUT.....Deep down i still do have a love for consoles,Just the simplicity of knowing it will work properly.

I miss the good old days of GTA 3 on the PS2...those were the days when games were enjoyable.

I was a pc gamer then transferred to consoles for 10-12 years, now back to PC gaming.

PCs are better in that the games are cheaper, graphics are better and the servesr usually hold more people, problem is things can go wrong, drivers e.t.c

Consoles are good in that its just put the game in and go, problem is as said, the tech gets outgrown very quickly.

If only this was still the case but one bad thing consoles have now taken from the PC is fixing games in patches, before consoles had online components most games came out in a better state because there was no way of repairing a shoddy release, now too many developer put out their products unfinished & untested knowing that they have a chance to repair them later.
Fallout new Vegas, Rage, Skyrim, Black-ops, Fifa 13 all released with game breaking bugs on consoles, then fixed (to some degree) with patches, at least with a PC there is a chance that the community can come up with a solution or work around, on a console you are at the mercy of the devs/publishers completely.

You can't aim with a gamepad as well as a mouse, they used "aim assist" which isn't really you aiming. I want to aim myself, if oyu just want to watch conematic action, watch a movie instead, games are immersive and you need control for that.

Also a keyboard has so many more buttons than console controllers, you can do so much more.

Not to mention customising you PC and it being faster and more powerful and able to produce a more beautiful and immersive gaming environment that the most powerful console could ever dream of. etc. etc.

It's really the kind of gaming experience you are after in my opinion.

Pop disk in console and flop down in front of telly for a bit: Console

No preparation time (mostly - some games on console now have installs), no messing about (mostly - games on console have patches more and more :/) just put the disk in and go.

Install game, download patch, download community mod, play for a few hours: PC

You spend some time setting stuff up but in return for this you generally have more control over how things work. This can include things like mods, map packs. Consoles do now have DLC but on PC you get community made content.

Controllers... I play with an xbox pad on my PC and I think some console games take keyboard and mouse so that in itself is not such a big thing.

I couldn't play FPS games with a pad.

The current gen of consoles are now equivalent to very low spec PCs. You won't have to spend a lot of money on a PC to get games looking much better.

There's games that are exclusive to PC. Mostly that's stuff like MMOs and consoles have their exclusives too.

A lot of the differences are slowly vanishing as consoles get more complicated and connected and PCs get simpler but at present I think a PC offers you plenty a console doesn't. I have both.

You clearly don't know what aim assist is.

Don't think you understand aim assist to be honest.

Also a keyboard has so many more buttons than console controllers, you can do so much more.

If the control scheme is set up well you don't need all those extra buttons, Mass Effect 3 is a good example. And I find the controller *much* more immersive than keyboard and mouse. A definite bonus storyline heavy games.

Will give you this one. While graphics don't make a game, they certainly help. Didn't get into BF3 on console, loving it on PC.
