Why still no ATI 9.1

ATI don't release drivers as frequently as NVidia. They usually see bigger gains each time they release a new driver, whereas NV ones are more frequent, but each contain smaller gains and ixes.
 
They release them once a month, every month. I've seen Nvidia go about 4 months between drivers. In another thread it was mentioned there were only 5 WHQL drivers for for 8800GTX since its release. That equates to over 24 driver releases for ATI.

The drivers will be out this month, just be easy with that.

:confused: Are you on the same planet as the rest of us? ;)

ATI release official drivers monthly. nVidia your lucky to get a few official a year.
 
I wonder if ATi are having last minute problems with the 9.1's hence the late release date ?!

There are a few things they're trying to tie down still. I've had Catalyst 9.2 & 9.1 beta for weeks :D

I'm told definetely this week for the 9.1's though but this should be obvious to most as it is the last week of the month :p

Any chance you can tell us, no specifics down to NDA, but are they worth bothering with from the looks of things. Do they look good?
 
Well i've been using them on Windows 7 since it came out and by far they are the best set for that as of yet. All I'll say is they're a nice set of drivers which will address some pretty big bugs and sort them out.

'sideport' is a high-bandwidth additional connection between the GPUs. Basically it should allow the GPUs to talk to each other more efficiently.

The thing is, most current multi-GPU implementations use AFR (alternate frame rendering - one GPU renders one frame and the other renders the next). This is the most efficient for pumping out raw frames per second, but has other problems associated with it (microstutter being the main one). On the other hand, it doesn't require much inter-GPU communication, so there isn't much need for the sideport.

What would be fantastic is if ATI could design a split-frame rendering (or tile-based rendering) crossfire mode, and use the sideport to make it almost as fast as AFR. This way, we could have the best of both worlds :)
 
There is still a week left in January. Although, yes, they do tend to be out around 15th-20th of the month.
