Why still so expensive?!!

My PS3 is basically my most used item in my front room. I play DVD/ Blu-ray's regularly, listen to all my music through it, have films stored on it, watch Vidzone, Iplayer, ITV & 4OD, browse the web, and have all my holiday photo's stored on it for the wife to view/print. Recently picked up PlayTV for £15 so it's now replaced my ageing PVR and gives me a clearer picture along with a much better/user friendly interface. And finally if I want to I can game online (doesn't happen often)

This all costs me nothing a month on a 0 month contract :)

For me it's a great piece of kit and well worth the £215 I payed for it.
 
the ps3 is worth the £250 it demands for all the shizz that it does... the only thing that lets it down is the online party chat its missing (xbox has it sussed) - i mean come on - online gaming is all about having fun with mates on-line...duh

Well I guess its down to personal opinion, uncharted didnt make me want to keep playing, the recent tomb raiders did, I didnt feel the graphics were anything I hadnt seen on a 360 either, they didnt make me go wow anyway, I know its highly regarded, but it didnt appeal to me enough to warrant keeping this machine

that may well be, I didnt try 2, having not got through the first I would never buy a sequel to a game I didnt finish, again, I'd rather sell the ps3 and spend the money elsewhere, no point having another dust magnet on the desk

I started it at 99p on a 3 day auction, Ive been watching 120gb with no extras go for just over 200 quid the last few days

To the people who say that the PS3 is too expensive compared to the xbox 360: if you were to recommend that someone buy an xbox 360 instead, which model/price would you suggest and would you recommend playing online? The reason I ask is that I don't really see any price difference. Oh and what about a couple of play n charge kits?
 
Personally I think that the PS3 is still too expensive for what it is, but to me all I want is a games console, I'm not particually bothered about the Bluray capability and my 360 has enough media functions for me.

When it comes down to it, really I think you have to base any purchasing decision on the exclusives that are available for each machine rather than graphics etc because I see very little between them. I'd say that the 360 has the better software line up but if you look at some of the exclusives coming for the PS3 this year it could make the decision even harder. In the end whichever you get, you're still getting a great console with some very good titles.

My PS3 (40GB phat) was about £350 and my 360 about £200

I have had my 360 since around the time it was launched, it was a 20gb model back then and has a 120GB drive on it now, I have put more hours into gaming on it than I would like to think, xbox live is easily worth the 27p a week and it has been sent off to MS for the RROD once

I have had my PS3 for about 3 years now, I wanted a blu-ray player and I am a gamer so I bought the ps3 to have the best of both worlds. at the time blu-ray players were still around £200+ so a bit more for the ps3 made sense, I put a bit of time into everybody's golf and completed uncharted 1+2 and metal gear, apart from that it is my blu-ray player, It has been exchanged in store once and with sony once for faults

As you say, unless someone gets a bare 4gb 360, the prices are fairly close. Close enough to not be an issue.

27p a week since launch is at least £70. Not a huge amount but enough to stuff the price argument.
 
everyone having a mic on xbox can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on who/what you're playing :P
it's not like nobody has a mic on ps3 but much less chance of getting screamed at by a hyperactive 12year old lol
 
So to the people who say that the xbox 360 is much cheaper than the PS3, if your mate said he wants a games console and was considering one of the following (irrelevant which, just different preferences)

What cheaper xbox equivalent would you recommend he get? bare in mind he has a game or 2 to play there and can play online. I'm struggling to see this big difference. And not to be picky, let's just say that 320gb HDD is the same as 250GB HDD. From where I'm sitting, even if you get a 250gb Xbox 360 slim for £190, 2x £10 games and a £30 live sub, that's £240. I would have thought about a tenner for a battery charger and batteries? that makes it a few £ cheaper than the above PS3 deals untill the sub runs out next year.

Just bought a 250gb one for the price above. Will be nice to finally get my hands on some of the games the PS3 has that I've wanted to play such as Uncharted, MGS4 and Heavy Rain :)
