Why the Wii needs to fail!

The Wii is a failure for gamers though, sure it's hardware sales are great but they don't sell any games for it.

Why is it such a failure for gamers if it's not selling huge numbers of games - a good game (regardless of format) can keep someone playing for months or even years (my nephews have a 360 and a number of games for it, but only really play 2 of them, Gears of War and Rainbow 6, both of which they got with the console last christmas).

Poor games sales could be down to a lack of initial support for the system as much as anything else, and unlike some consoles it's selling at least a lot of hardware :p (cheap shot I know).

Hardcore gamers dont play just 1 platform, if you do thats more fanboy speak.

Graphics is making a major advancement the past few years mainly this year but some games are either too short or boring and linear. I have found Nintendo's "Last" generation styled games to last a lot longer than any current pc title i have bought, i care too much about storylines and cinematics in games but gameplay is the most important factor as long as the graphics dont suck like Hell.

Hence Wii's dont need to fail, im not going to argue because i hate it and i love my Nintendo products to much. But this thread fails!

whats wrong with the technology of the wii? surely what the wii is doing is adding to the gaming experience..

you cannot call yourself a serious gamer or even any sort of gamer if all you care about is graphics

Some people watch too many Crysis videos ;D

Just one thing ive wanted to get answerd for a long.

The Wii gets a heap of credit for creating interactive gaming and the way its games get played by the movements of the users.

Now i wouldnt mind so much but it seems that Sony are getting almost no Credit for doing this with the Eye Toy WAY before the Wii was realised.(And not to mension the old old arcade games like the shooters and stuff, they were very basic by they had all ready done it Way before the Eye toy even.)

I think the Wii gets too much credit for something that had already been done TBH and its really how it got Advertised that got it so well known and made so many sales.(like people said, Too people that had never played a game in there life)

You have a point, and may be the marketing of Nintendo is the real genius here, or the enticement of Wii sports alone and Wii sports only. That has attracted gamers who's never picked up a joypad in their life, and in addition, will probably never buy another game on the Wii.

The only real problem I can see with the Wii is what will happen in the next gen. Both Sony & MS are going to look at the Wii sales and think they have to add motion sensitive stuff to their controllers (more than just the sisaxis) in order to get a piece of the rather large market that Nintendo has captured. Nintendo are then going to have to try and compete spec wise again or try for more innovation. Unless they have full VR planned (I can dream :D) for their next console they may find it hard to keep up with the other two.

Plus im sure there are a lot of PS3/360 owners who wouldnt want the next gen games to start using new motion sensing controllers across all platforms.

Maybe im just overreacting, only time will tell I guess ;)

i don't think it is the actual motion sensor that cause the sales figures the wii have to date. It is the use of the motion sensor along with the genius of the design of the wiimote and nun chuck. The idea of mimicking real life activity by the same motion in your front room is what people are interested in and what non-gamers like OAPs can get to grips with. They can see it in action, all the button mashing with a pad is overly complicated in their point of view.

The thing I like about the Wii is it's ressurecting the key element of gaming, Gameplay substinance over Graphics which is pretty much all we are getting from X360 and PS3, no new or innovative games and constant churning out of sequels of bad sports games which a new roster and better graphics.

Nintendo have made so many of the best games in each era that they are probably the only true backers of gameplay over asthetics anymore.

I don't have a Wii as there aren't any games that interest me on it yet but it's principals are definately in the right, to make money from GAMERS by giving them fun to play games and not graphical demos.

The Eye Toy was fun, but not a patch on the Wii. You just have to take a look at the great games released for it (there aren't any) or how disappointing the new PS3 card game/camera combo turned out to be.

I had great fun with the Eye Toy and will eventually pick it up on the PS3 for silly 'head the ball' type games, but that's about it.

If such a console as the Wii had even 3/4 the processing power of the PS3 then I'd still imagine it would be cheaper than the PS3

Just work this out before talking ****

Sony are selling at a huge loss, while N are selling at a profit (for "old " hardware)

The only way N could even attempt to sell something as advanced as the PS3 is by "using" the profits of the wii and having heavier losses per unit than Sony already are (which is highly unlikely given the electronic expertise of Sony in general)

I have a feeling Nintendo will always be a generation behind (in hardware terms) and keep the profit per unit sold high

And the 'electronic expertise' of Nintendo is...? And wth, if Nintendo used their profits, why the hell would they end up making even bigger losses than Sony? Bearing in mind I'm not talking about a Nintendo equivalent to the power of the PS3, just something that kept up a bit more than their 'overclocked Gamecube'.

My Wii will be getting used much more when Galaxies is out Friday!

Literally cannot wait, it'll be fun, innovative and different!
