Poll: Why this forum doesn't have an option for a custom avatar made by a user ?

Yep, and just before one of the big nukes everyone was also made a don, that was a giggle. I also remember when we had no sig rules and everyone had huge animated gifs, it looked awful. Much prefer the clean lines we have now.

IIRC one of the reasons we went with a signature rule in the first place was someone with an animated gif of the dual between two of the characters in the first of the Star Wars prequels, I think it was something like 2MB or similar in size at a time when most were on 56k at best.

To be honest one of the reasons I've been here so long is the forums haven't joined the Web 3.0 gimmicky can't turn off mobile view use this app rubbish.

The mafia theme seems to me to be a throwback to days of the former owner, long overdue for a change I think, whilst I quite enjoy the Godfather films for what they are, I've never liked the gangster theme of the forums especially given posting anything remotely gangster like would end in a suspension!

It is pretty trivial to disable avatars in the User Control Panel.

Me too (had them turned off) my point being I'd rather choose something myself (within a set criteria which would be fair enough) rather than having the choice of Gangster crap or sod all.

I prefer the nothing approach. It keeps the forum's layout and UI simple and clean. If there was no option to disable avatars in the User Control Panel, I would have removed the avatar HTML element years ago via ublock / adblock / etc.

So long as the avatar has set size limits and is content appropriate- with an option to remove them altogether if a user so wishes - then where's the problem?

There is no problem. I simply stated that my preference is for nothing and that I would do what I needed to to ensure that they didn't show if there was not a User CP setting for that.

I think it's ok the way it is, it's not perfect, some updates could be implemented but ultimately, if it's not broke, don't fix it. I think a new theme would improve the aesthetics, as it's quite bland and very blue. How about a sarcasm smiley?

I think this forum could be loads better, not just desktop wise, but especially mobile friendly. Overall it needs bringing up to date. It also needs to implement itself into social media. <- use and abuse this, it's the now.
