Makes no difference. Everything that you buy has to last a "reasonable" period of time - up to 6 years.

A recent example is a 3 year old cooker that broke down , I did not have extended waranty. The retailer tried to pass the buck, I quoted the SoGA at him and got consumer direct involved and finaly hit him with a 7 day notice and lo and behold I get it repaired for free.
Know your statutory legal rights in respect to items you purchase and stop getting ripped off by this 1 years warranty rubbish.
