Yeah I agree with that Jkrohn1, The last thing you want is it to fail just after the years warrenty ends,

Makes no difference. Everything that you buy has to last a "reasonable" period of time - up to 6 years.
See my earlier post re Sale of Goods Act in this thread.
A recent example is a 3 year old cooker that broke down , I did not have extended waranty. The retailer tried to pass the buck, I quoted the SoGA at him and got consumer direct involved and finaly hit him with a 7 day notice and lo and behold I get it repaired for free.
Know your statutory legal rights in respect to items you purchase and stop getting ripped off by this 1 years warranty rubbish.

Oh right, didnt realise that, luckily in the past I havent had anything thats broke on me but I should read up on what my rights are.

Got my 360 exchanged yesterday afternoon and the new one seems to be fine, The manager in Game gave me some rubbish about how he cant send machines back to Microsoft and that they have set up a special contract to get faultys sent straight back from customer to manufacturer.

He assured me it would have been exchanged in 48hours my Microsoft, so I said "well this way I get it exchanged in 2 minutes and left the shop. :) After what some people have said on this forum it takes a lot longer the 48hours. Anyway wish me luck on X360 number 2 :)

That may be the company policy but it is pretty irrelevant.
Your contract is with the shop not with Microsoft. It is far less hassle for the retailer if customers deal with MS but you are not obliged to do so.
It is a common practice for retailers to try and pass the buck like this and it is only possible because so few consumers know their rights.
Extended warranties are a waste of space in my opinion because of statutory rights. I quizzed some shop staff on the warranty they wanted to sell me (circa £350) on my new TV. Apparently it was going to cover me for 5 years against all the things that are already covered by the SoGA. I pointed this out.
Ah well you also get accidental damage cover sir.
My house insurance covers me there .....
No warranty was purchased.

Well having said my Xbox 360 was working perfectly... It froze a few minutes ago.. all seems still well now but it had to happen in the middle of a game of Madden 06 winning 84 - 0  even worse was that I hadn't saved the franchise in a few games so now I'm still at 2 - 0 - 0 instead of 5 - 0 - 0
