Wii on Component

I have the Official Component Cable , Madcatz and a shop own cable that i cant mention

All 3 cables in my eyes show no visable difference in PQ on a Toshiba 37WLT68 LCD,

Interestingly though, build quality of the cables show that the Madcatz is the better build, then the shop one, and finally the Nintendo one which has much thinner cabling than the other two

If you already have a 3rd party cable, i wouldnt rush out to get the official and expect better results

i got my component last night.. i wasnt that impressed to he honest.. yes it was crisper but didnt look as sharp as my gamecube did.. although i was very impressed by the plain composit before hand.

Good but not that great.. might be my TV i dont know. (42" Panasonic Plasma)

Which plasma? I've currently got my Wii hooked up to a Phanny PW6 via RGB into the VGA port and the picture is really good, but wanting to swap to component to save swapping cables as I'm currently sharing the RGB with my freeview box.

Just hoping the picture isn't going to be worse. :confused:

hey guys, im using the official wii component cable.

there is a big difference in quality but i have a problem.

it's incredibly bright, it's so bright i can't see the checkered floor on the mii channel, does anyone have an idea on how to fix this?

turned down brightness and constrast, doesn't help apart from make everything dark. It's not the TV which is the problem

I have an idea. Turn your brightness down? <edit> is it an LCD TV?

For me in the pictures on the web site mentioned, the major difference with the component is the white writing on the last frame.

Look how in the composite there is a ton of bleed through, whereas the component looks white. This is the most noticable difference, you can see this effect in other colours if you look closely at your TV. It creates an overall blurry effect.

Thats quite bad. Did you set the Wii to output in progressive? Because that looks like your tellys trying to process a de-interlaced source.
I know my old DVD player had the same effect on my LCD TV as well when using S-Video. But moving to a HDMI player 'cured' it.

yep, i've set the nintendo Wii correctly.

Does this mean it's a problem with my Wii?

I suspect it is a setting on your TV, is there a backlight adjustment setting? Check all options and settings, lots of TVs do similar things when you change the source input, and many TVs have individual settings for each input. LCD monitors can looked washed out if the backlight is too high.

<edit> also, I have heard reports of 3rd party (mad catz) cables not working properly. See if you can get a hold of a different cable or the genuine nintendo one if you don't have already.

i don't know, i've looked high and low through the basic menu (there isn't any advanced section) and couldn't find anything.

Its almost deffinetly going to look better.. as mine has, just not loads better. My gamecube looked really nice on component compared to composit. This tv on composit was pretty god anyway.. just the red was wierd and fuzzy..

Although the wii on component runs at 852 x 480 .. ratehr than the standard (640x480) on composit..

those extra pixels.

Fingers crossed then it's going to look as good or hopefully better, the RGB feed i'm currently using is run through a JS RGB Scart to VGA convertor which also cleans up the signal.

No it doesnt. Component allows 480p. 480p is 720x480. I dont know whre you got 852 from.
And composite isnt 640x480 iirc either.

I get exactly the same on my LG TV.

Have you sorted it out as my 360 is fine through component.

Component at 60hz is 720x480 (480p60). Composite at 480i is 640x480 still, if at 60hz. If 50hz, it's 576i... as I understand it.
