The 3DS is going for £160+ and that has a lot of tech in it.

It really doesn't. The BoM is about $100. The only reason it launched at $250 was because of the hype, originally it was supposed to be $200. In the rest of the world the price is still nearer $250 and 250 euro. Its only because of the supermarkets gouging each other that its so cheap in the UK.

The Wii U won't be more than £300 and they'll be making a healthy profit on it as always. Apparently its about 50% more powerful than the 360 and PS3 which considering its 6 years newer isn't much financially. Plus its not got a HDD afaik and also doesn't have to pay for dvd and blu ray tech.

No HDD?

Missing a trick there with downloadable games

It has internal storage, though the amount (AFAIK) is still undefined with expandable memory an option. I imagine it will still be a very limited amount. Even the Wii has 512mb.

No the 4890 isnt R770 based its based on the R790, it seems more likely that it will be 4730/4830 based down to heat, power, cost constraints and what devs have said.

Well, I think when they say based on RV770, it won't actually be an RV770, but a core based off of the same design/architecture (I believe AMD stated it was a 'custom' chip) much in the same way that the RSX shares a lot of its design with the Nvidia G70 core. I mean it's pretty unlikely that they'd produce the thing on the same manufacturing process as the 4870 (55nm) when the 40nm node is readily available and would reduce manufacturing costs and power consumption. Also AMD/ATi/ArtX (depending on how far you go back) have a history of adding interesting new features to GPUs in consoles so I think it's fairly unlikely that they'll just bung in an off the shelf RV770.

I'll buy this console just for a HD Zelda, if it looks this good.

Wii U has 3GHz quad core CPU, 768 MB of RAM(rumor)

http://wiiudaily.com/2011/12/wii-u-has-quad-core-3ghz-cpu-768-mb-of-ram/

Nintendo is finally set to release a new, much more powerful console with HD graphics, and many are wondering what kind of technology we might find inside the console, and how it will compare with the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. We’ve heard from developers who have access to the console that the Wii U is “50% more powerful” than the Xbox 360 and PS3. We now know that those estimates of 50% are based on the fact that the Wii U is around 50% more powerful on paper, according to information Wii U Daily obtained from a Japanese developer who is currently working on porting a PS3 game to the Wii U.
According to the source, the Wii U specs are:

* Quad Core, 3 GHz PowerPC-based 45nm CPU, very similar to the Xbox 360 chip.
* 768 MB of DRAM “embedded” with the CPU, and shared between CPU and GPU
* Unknown, 40nm ATI-based GPU

The source also mentions that Nintendo has been testing two versions of the console, one with 768 MB of RAM, and one with 1 GB. The RAM is also made by IBM and is embedded with the processor on the same die/silicon, which results in more bandwidth.

These were the specs that Nintendo showed developers around March 2011, so it’s unknown how close to the final specs these are, considering there’s a year until the console is scheduled for release.

When it was unveiled earlier this year, Nintendo confirmed that the Wii U would support 1080p graphics and 3D is possible as well.

When it comes to these rumours, you really have to look at the ram, Nintendo seems to have a ram fetish, they normally uses some sort of ott type stuff.

You'll find typically RAM is the limiting factor for Sony and Microsoft consoles long before raw power causes big issues. Nintendo seem to do well with worse hardware by bolstering it where it matters.

786 shared between CPU and GPU is a tad low though.
