Wil Wheaton's Tabletop

I quite like Qwirkle, although that could be because I pwned the one time I've played it so far, think I got into the 130's by the end, a constant stream of qwirkles racks up the points nicely :D

Another similar one that I've played way more is Iota, way more portable but same basic idea with the extra element of a number. So there are 4 colours, 4 shapes and numbers 1-4, so any two cards next to each other, like qwirkle, determine the rules but there's an extra aspect. As they're cards that are ~1"x1" the box is tiny, not much bigger than a couple of qwirkle tiles :p

Just watched the latest one, Tsuro of the seas.

Is it me, or does that game look a bit poor? Particularly the elimination element. You could be out pretty quick.

I don't mind elimination games when other players get you out (as long as they aren't too long) but this just seems really random.

Yeah, with the original Tsuro it's possible to be knocked out quite early (although again not random as such, and usually down to stupid decisions :p) but the game is only 10-15 minutes long if that so it's not too bad.

But then with picking the starting positions after dragons have been placed it shouldn't be that bad, and Tsuro is surprisingly good fun so still kinda tempted to pick it up at some point :)

Fair enough, just didn't appeal to me.

Formula Day didn't either.

Not all the games they review do, but the episodes are usually good regardless.

I pretty much bought 'King of Tokyo' and The Resistance because of Tabletop.

Most of the games they show on Tabletop are the type that keep every player involved right until the very last moment, such as the previous episode (Carcassonne) - Tsuro seems to be one of the few games they've shown where you could go out quite early, and have to wait around - I can see why they played Wil's "house rule" of continuing to roll for the dragons.

I've chipped in for this - I watch YouTube without ads, so I've not been contributing at all over the last couple of years to Geek & Sundry, and I really enjoy TableTop and their other shows, so if a couple of quid allows me to get more of what I enjoy, without them having to introduce changes, then so be it :)

Anyone played unspeakable words?

No but I did notice an obvious flaw with it that put me off!

Obviously the game is very luck based and first sane person to 100 wins. However unless the d20 is modified in some way there's no benefit to playing shorter words as each number on the die will always have the same chance of coming up surely?

Hopefully I'm wrong about this as it would be a bit of a shame because it seems like a good fun time filler/intro game!

You have to roll over the score of your word.
