Wildstar New MMO (NCSoft and Carbine Studios)

There's a difference between developing and publishing. To say that Aion, Lineage and Guild Wars were all half-hearted is extremely naive.

The only thing that matters is if the individual playing the game likes it or not. So far, I've heard nothing but good things about Wildstar *cough*.

Carbine studios are a subsidiary of NCsoft, Carbines sole focus is Wildstar, i'm pretty sure they will be backing this game for years to come depending on how well it does, and from what i've seen and heard, i'm pretty sure this game is gonna take off like a rocket.

Seamless zones is a biggie for me, suddenly a lot more interested :)

It made such a difference in DaoC and way back in Asheron's Call. I hate walled off zones, they're just another way of reminding you you're in a game and not a virtual world.

Yeah i totally agree, cant stand playing an mmo that has loading screens left right and center, elder scrolls is the latest one, even more annoying for me in that game because i had a bug that would take everything off my bars every time i had to load a new area!

Indeed it just shocks me wow could do it but no else has since. It's so immersion breaking and smacks (to me at least) of trying to save a few quid over giving a good product.

One of my most fun mmo experiences was thanks to seamless zoning in vanilla wow where I decided on one of my first characters I had to reach IF from SW and didn't realise there was a train. Was escorted by a helpful (in retrospect maliciously evil troll :D) from SW to Redridge up past the town through the canyon to where it zones into a 50+ zone, Burning Steppes I think. Chap toddles off saying he has to go wishes me luck.... I spent about 3 hours stuck in burning steppes dodging mobs and wondering what the skull symbol was all about and why they murdered me do easily. Eventually a kindly soul rescued me and I ended friends with the evil beggar who left me in that predicament :D

I did a similar thing when i made an undead and ran too far north into a zone that had loads of spiders, all i remember was seeing like 20 massive spiders running from all directions and getting instantly killed, took me a couple of deaths to work out i have taken a wrong turn and might want to get out! :D

While I never got a toon higher than about 30 in WoW, the first cross-continent taxi flight I took was still one of the most jaw-dropping moments in an mmo, ever. The whole world just scrolled by beneath me, smooth as glass. I couldn't believe they'd managed the whole thing seamlessly, that's how it should be done :)

It's one reason I still play Rift, although it annoys me on other respects. You can actually mountain climb, they're not just zone walls but actual mountains you can get over into other areas. Just makes it feel less likea series of levels :)

Not fussed by the whole zones vs seamless malarkey. They both have plus points and both have negative - they way most modern mmo's are set up there isn’t too much of a reason to go into that seamless environment beyond the 1st initial play through. Is it really much of a deal breaker in this day and age anyway? Just give me a fun, engaging experience and I couldn’t care less if I had to play in the nude with piranhas snapping at my goolies ;)

"Train to zone" I miss that though.

This game will probably get me away from WoW which I have been trying to do over the last 2 years! Atm it is in closed Beta isn’t it? any rumours going about an open beta or stress test?
I can’t find anything on a release date but from other comments people are liking how polished it is already
I know a lot of people ask about keys but if anyone else has one I would greatly appreciate it 

I cannot think of a single positive of having instanced zones. I find them annoying and unnecessary. A huge open world provides a much more immersive experience. Being able to take off on a flying mount in WoW and go anywhere makes the world feel huge and epic and provides a greater sense of freedom. Comparing this to a game like Neverwinter(an otherwise great game) where the world is just a long chain on instances. Every 10 minutes you're opening a door or going through a portal. I felt claustrophobic the whole time when leveling. It's the primary reason I've stayed away from DDO, Vindictus, FFXIV and all the other heavily instanced MMOs.

If your zones are huge, ala EQ zones, that take 10-20 minutes with a speed boost to run across, I've no problem with there being zone lines.

Flying mounts were the biggest mistake the wow devs made, they've said in numerous occasions they would get rid if they had their time again.

Why would that be Newbie? I loved flying mounts in WoW, just curious what their reason for classing it as a mistake were?

I personally think the game was better before flying mounts too. That and the LFG feature etc. It took away the world pvp and basically the whole aspect of travel/exploration was gone.

Having organised groups with warlocks to summon/mages to portal etc gave those classes more purpose. Having to get in MC past another enemy guild meeting up there etc was all good fun.

Based around world pvp from what I gather. Removed a large part of being "in" a zone when could avoid the whole thing. Think that was there reasons.

World PvP died with flying mounts, there was no 'danger' whilst questing - kill mob, fly to next pack, kill mob etc. it made the world smaller too, as the other guys have said above :)

Enough wow talk though, Wildstar god dammit!

It's irritating me as I'm getting excited and that tends to end badly for me and mmos :p

What class is everyone fancying?

Medic here for me. I'm usually a warrior in mmos , however I'm really planning on not rushing this game like I do with most MMOs so I want a class that's going to be able to get groups at every level.
