Wilko goes into Administration

They did themself no favours with that awful self service till system they set up, they had 2-3 of them stood about shepherding you to self service, they may as well have been sat on a till...

I want to know how the hell Hobbycraft is still going. Thought they’d be prime candidates for getting in trouble.

Arts and crafts is great 'value' hobby for people looking for things to do without much cash to splash, I think the likes of Hobbycraft do very well in these sort of economic climates.

Agreed!

Would you rather stand in a shop stacking shelves/sitting on a till

or

Would you rather deal with mainly very elderly people who likely are hard of hearing or have dementia, and you need to bath them, wipe their arse etc?
Do you want immigrants to do it and ex Wilko employees on benefits?

Many more businesses will go bump in the next 12 months I reckon

The company I work for used to sub out to 2 big construction firms that have recently gone bump owing over 100 million to subbies and suppliers

It's only going get worse

I reckon so - where my dad works (fortunately he is mostly retired now though still does consultancy work for them) is hovering on the brink with administrators called in, various attempts at refinancing haven't gone well. Hopefully won't affect his pension.

Where one of my brothers works has done a massive amount of refinancing in the last 12 months but that will probably only keep them afloat another 12 months.

One of the companies we use at work for supplies is pretty much done, owing millions and I can't see them pulling out a viable way to pay that off, we are already in the process of changing from them, I suspect so are other companies who use them, which won't help. They only have themselves to blame though - poor management who just don't care, staff with a poor attitude, etc. they had no real excuse for screwing it up as they can charge pretty lucrative rates.

etc. etc.

Gutted to be honest, I used to work for them many years ago in a senior position at their head office, I was on first name terms with the family and whilst working for them I always felt a part of 'something'.

My mother just retired in July after 39 years with them.

It was a fantastic company to work for, and many of my friends still work for them.

After the initial news last week a lot of my friends went home to have difficult conversations with their families about financial uncertainties.

I do hope that it is salvaged, but whatever the outcome, the Wilkos I used to work for will be gone.

Wilko have not been the same since they renamed themselves from Wilkinson. This was 2011/12

Things are more expensive than B&M and Home Bargains. My plug in air freshener refills were £8 each in Wilko - £9 for 2 in B&M.

I thought it was very fishy for a major retailer to drop the lottery at the end of last year. Must be more than what was mentioned in the media. Probably Camelot weren’t impressed with their finances then.

Also Wilko haven’t updated their retail outlets - moving to retail parks. The only Wilkos I know are in retail parks are Beaumont Leys, north of Leicester and Crystal Peaks, south of Sheffield. There might have been more but not visited all.

Last summer, my parents and I stayed in a self catering flat. The flat only had one wine glass (others probably got damaged and not replaced) - spotted someone with a Wilko bag and asked him where Wilko is. Gave directions. This was the last time I visited a Wilko.

My friend who works in an office block overlooking a Wilko delivery yard has not seen a lorry there for weeks. Usually 3-4 lorries a week.
