Will a SSD drive make me go WOW?

I've got a 640gb 2.5" WD drive in there at the mo, which stores my 'User' folder. Whenever necessary, I can simply pop the drive out and take pretty much my entire pc with me.

I'm thinking of using the 160GB Intel SSD for this :D About to hit the buy button :D

I hope you'll be running that through eSata as the USB will be a mahoosive bottleneck
 
My next build will have a SSD in it.

I don't really care for 2 seconds versus 6. I just know that when I open something I want it to be there without the lag you can get on mechanical disks.

My browser can sometimes sit at about 500MB of Memory usage and sometimes it likes to lock out, why? Disk access accessing browser cache.

I use a 72GB Raptor at the moment, the space it provides is fine for a bunch of steam games, other installs all my apps and the OS. I would consider 128GB in a SSD but never more.

The reason I do not have one now is I use XP on this system. No TRIM = No SSD. Next build will be Windows 7 and as such SSD makes sense.
 
SSD is worth it as boot drive, but get one with TRIM support. I would not go crazy on size however (cost).

I fitted my SSD to my old 1.86 Core 2 and it really gave it a boost, same drive now on an i5.

Also, it's silent. I run .Net development projects on mine. it's nice being in a world of your own working away, and not hear the HDD drives going everytime I re-compile.

I'd agree the price is very high, so getting one for apps and games is all it's worth atm - if you try and use it for storage you'll spend loads...

Unless

You happen to get one second hand for a very good deal off someone you know.. like I did :)
 
I was lucky enough to get one of the 128g Crucial drives last September - made me go wow until I was used to everything opening instantly (GTA4 load time around 30secs) fired up a friends laptop the other day and remembered what windows loading on a mech HD was like :o
 
A 160GB Intel + Win7 came for me this morning from the UK, I'm stuck at work though and itching to get it installed, roll on home time :D
 
I REALLY want an SSD, but i know i should wait for the prices to drop a bit.

Ideally i would want 100GB for £100, so £1 per GB (which is still expensive compared to standard hard drives), but im gonna be waiting a while for that.

Well I've had my SSD a few days now, I'll agree with dmpoole, I don't really think WOW that's mega fast. I think it may be so fast that you don't notice it's fast if that makes sense. I seen to remember thinking "come on" when waiting for programs open, now they open before my mind gets to that stage.

Coming into work on my ancient laptop makes me appreciate how fast it is though.
