Thanks for the info, if i bought the pre binned cpu then on launch do you get a list of compatible motherboards the speed will work with or would they work in any motherboard assuming the cooling is ok. Also is the pre binned ones restricted on the amount of ram?

Are the Maximus X Formula boards available on launch? I may buy one and then just wait for the delidded i7 8700k's. Fingers crossed availability won't go into 'weeks'.

Yeah! Given the expansion limitations of the platform, ain't worth to buy the big expensive boards.
CoffeeLake supports only 16 pci-e lanes from CPU which go straight for the GPU and a DMI 3.0 connector to chipset (4x Pci-e lanes bandwidth).
The latter is just enough to scrape bottleneck the rest of my gear. A 960 Pro, Wifi, couple USB 3.0s and two Sata drives.

So time to go small, reduce the case to from full tower to something more compact.
