Will We Start Seeing 1080 Prices Getting Sensible Again Soon..?

They obviously were as people ordered them and are still waiting.

I would agree with you, if it wasn't for the fact that people would spend £££££ on Titans causing them to go out of stock, remember when the new Titans came in and they were priced between £800 and a £1000, they still sold out straight away. Look at how expensive the Dell monitor was when that came out? I had to go elsewhere to buy mine and saved myself near £300!

The 1080 was never at a good price, before or after the leave campaign

if the dollar was still over $2 to the pound and the the 1080 were £280 to £300 would you still be complaining?

The 1080 would never be that cheap to begin with! New tech = ££££££ and people will pay whatever the cost, if they are desperate enough to do so

The good news about the Brexit is that once we leave the EU we'll have unrestricted commercial dealings with countries outside of the EU like India, China, Japan and the States. Our deals with the States currently are restricted at a certain level of trade because nobody in EU is allowed to get a better deal than anyone else. It's going to take time but in the mid to long term the retail price of electronic goods will drop once we're able to negotiate better deals. I just wish I could move the clock forward.

I've now ordered a Zotac Amp! Extreme from another etailer for £633.99 plus a fiver for postage. £600 was originally my limit but I thought I'd jump on that yesterday before the price went up again. It was only £580 last week!

People are forgetting that the 1000 series cards launched before all that... "stuff" happened (ugh fgs, please don't keep on bringing up politics in the GPU section). And even before the GBP lost some value, people were complaining about the high prices that these cards were originally launched at. Yes... I remember the infamy of the clown card.

Now that could possibly be attributed to:
1) The Founder's Edition malarky. Some AIB partners might think that their card must be priced higher than the reference, because their cards are better. And they wouldn't be wrong on that, previously that's the way it's always been. Pay more for better tech. Some nicer AIBs relased with reasonable prices. One of the EVGA custom cards that was miles better than FE, was priced much less than FE.

2) Stock shortages. It's all about supply and demand as many of us have said. When supply outweighs demand, prices drop in an attempt to increase that demand and shift the goods. During the other way around (high demand, low supply) however, prices rise in an attempt to either curb the demand or capitalise on it. It's why rare things like gold is worth a lot. There isn't much of it to go around.

If stock ever improves... we'll see what happen to the prices. It depends on how well the currently overpriced cards are selling. If those with bottomless wallets are still buying 'expensive' cards, then it ruins the fun for the rest of us as companies notice that many are willing to pay more and retain the high pricing.

Previously in many a thread, I've seen arguments about how one persons purchase of a product doesn't affect other people. I once believed that... but now I no longer do. I've seen that wallets and money does all the talking. If things sell one way, they'll continue to sell that way. If they don't sell, then perhaps some change may come about.

So if significant amounts of people are happy paying more for their GPUs... the other folks who can't justify such cost are left behind.

TLDR if something sells well... prices will likely not drop.

Edit:
Prices will fall when people stop buying them at their current price.

That's also another good way to sum things up.

Yep if the pound reaches parity with the dollar, you an thank the 52% for the 52% rise in GPUs. The Tories won't cancel Brexit, they'd rather be in power and see the country ruined.
Oh well, people have always been happy to get price gouged and pay anything for Nvidia gpu's so what's new? :D Some blame Nvidia, some blame brexiters, some blame whatever. End of the day the gpu prices are just going up and some will just keep handing over the cash and some will remember the good old days before price gouging.

Like it used to be when it was $2 to $2.5 to the pound? Was worth a weekend in New York if you wanted enough things as the savings more than paid for the flights and accommodation.

As the pound drops, it will become more expensive to go to the states to buy one, not cheaper.

Damn you and your accursed logic Greebo! :p

Sorry I've just got to throw my two penneth in. I've heard the above arguement loads of times its usually from people who don't run a company that exports or make most of their money from the EU. Companies that deal with the EU where most of their income come from are going to suffer terribly. My sons godfather deals strictly with EU companies due to nature of business cant go to these non EU countries. He has already seen a drop off of deals done and existing companies not renewing contracts. He is very worried. He can not deal with non EU countries. Wish people would stop using this "new open world market" as a solution to leaving the EU. Its not. His main market is electronic goods.

Sorry just had to say.

you are more than likely correct, however this is a big change and it will happen so he will have to find a solution preferably sooner rather than later.

Another update we are now at 1.325.

So a serious question would be at what stage will we see price normality if the pound stays above todays rate and keeps strengthing?

I know there will be stock that has been bought and is already shipped or here but the exchange rate should start to have an effect rather quickly yes?
