Graphical update ? How long can blizzard continue to use a 5 year old. Gfx engine that doesn't even use the gfx card much ?
It seems to be cpu bound .
With all the new mmo looking better than wow will it force blizz to do something ? There going to have to bite the bullet some time are they not?

I remember seeing a screen shot (well two) of wow in HD, looked really really nice. May have been photo shopped who knows.

Blizzard are working on a new MMO, though afaik there is currently nothing more than speculation on what it is. WoW is so popular because it'll run on pretty much every machine.

While the graphics are starting to look dated now, it's always been carried by the art direction, which hasn't lost much of its sheen.

Since the release of wow the graphics have actually improved a lot.

Didnt used to have proper shadows or any spangly stuff like that

I see that for the expansion they are adding in a new water filter and some higher res textures, but dont fix what isnt broken i say :)

Well if you look at the original zones, items and what not you'll see the graphics have come quite a long way actually, not leaps and bounds no but significantly better, I actuallly prefer the older styles but that's just opinion.

Old Sylvanas vs New Sylvanas and Queldelar vs Quelserrar highlights the progression well.

What do you mean 'HD'? HD is just a resolution (i.e. True HD is 1920x1080) it's been 'HD' from release.

Surely the new expansion will bring higher level on detail to textures and greater polygon count like the last two?

True, I was only going by what they were called. Basically one of them was around Tannaris I think and well the graphics had basically been updated and it really looked good.

I think WoW is one of the best looking games, maybe it doesn't have as much polygons or shaders as other games like Crysis or ME2, but it's graphics are perfect for what it does.

I dont think they will update the gfx, they dont need to. Blizzard tend to spend many years making something, many more years perfecting it and miss every release date going.

It doesnt look too bad in 1920 x 1200 with everything maxed out, I prefer the smoothness and look to the vast majority of mmo's out there. It's a lot better than it used to be.

They probably risk losing customers if they do a major graphical upgrade. I expect a lot of the community still use low end computers.

In answer to the OP no it will not.

Apart from what others have spoke of above.

Also, confirming what others have said, Blizzard are currently working on a secret project on the next MMORPG.

It fits perfectly as it is with the whole warcraft theme,

If you played warcraft 1 to 3 the rts games you can relate to the graphics and how well blizz have translated them into 3d. I love it.

As as others have said, it will run on near enough any graphics chipset release in the last 4+ years, yes even intel gma adapters lol

Does ANYBODY know what HD means? :o

Hard Drive.

To the OP, as has been said, WoW doesnt need an upgrade because it fits the game style, is easy to run and even when theres 30 people chucking stuff around its still achieving passable framerates on low end comps. but most of all, ***

As soon as they stop making $100million per month on a 5 year old graphic engine I assume.

WoW certainly doesn't look "bad" on max settings. The new zones (with the two expansion packs) look very nice in places.

They're re making the old world (with the new exp), so that will probably get a gfx boost.
