Are you working on changing the names of the Royal Air Force and the Royal Navy? How's it going? What about the crown on the plethora of crowns on military badges, do you scissor them off? :)

Given that the Army doesn’t use the word Royal in front of it, it shouldn’t be much of an issue. As long as they pay me, I’ll stick the old and new crowns anywhere.

There was a time when people did things that held no financial or physical benefit for them. Some of us are from such a time, or wish to extend such practices into this age of selfishness.

Things that would seem to me to be actually worthwhile along these lines (relatively speaking) would be donating money and/or spending free time to helping those that are in need.

Who are those that are struggling? What can I do to help them?

Whilst we all fight for our own sense of belonging and independence in this struggle of life, inviting people to swear allegiance to somebody just because of who he is by birthright seems an extremely poor reading of the room.

Whatever it is, I definitely wouldn’t call those making such a pledge as being ‘selfless’. Being selfless means giving up something, rather than a token empty gesture.

However, I do understand that the announcement of this was intended to generate a sense of participation and belonging. I can’t wholly begrudge an idea formed from good intentions.

Ive always been a royalist. ...

I'm not pledging allegiance to a woke King who is destroying the Monarchy and the established Church.

You're a royalist, under what circumstances do you think you have any choice or opinion on the matter? It's like saying you're a Christian but you don't believe in God - it's an absurd statement to make.

It’s almost like he wants to have a choice - you know, as if there was a list of candidates, everyone anonymously selected one and that with the most was given the position.

I'm surprised he's suggested this pledge, as between attacking the constitution, barging in to other people's religions under the name of being progressive, the pledge seems like a throwback.

So there are no Republicans in the UK?

Sadly it's the people at the top that don't want to defend the country. They are more interested in jumping on the gravy train and making money.

While Rome burns Nero fiddled.

Maybe its a natural part of history?

Maybe thats where the monarchy has gone wrong. No one likes it any more because it does not do much apart from look privileged

At least in the olden days, the king in battle would lead his armies on top of his horse as they lead their men (well, in the films anyway, dunno how accurate that is)

I want to see 'king' charles on top a horse, fighting the russians using nothing more than a cerimonial sword and obsorbing shrapnel using nothing more than his massive face. Then maybe I might consider my views on the monarchy

Chris, with some respect, you are one of the most self-serving and selfish posters this forum has the dubious honour of hosting. Posting over-archly worded posts is one thing (work on those commas, remember?) but you're not Mother Teresa here.

from youguv it's only gen alpha/youngsters who say they dislike monarchy - because monarchy don't live their best life 'openly' on social media like they do and their social media idols/gurus;
if the monarchy serialized their lives like Bridgerton / the crown they'd be as popular.

I assume King has banned using mobile phones during the service in Westminster.

Uhh, no. I imagine it’s got sod all to do with social media - more likely they don’t understand the concept of one family being the unchosen and unelected representatives of the country, living lives if luxury for no reason other than they happen to be descendants of those who took power a long time ago. It’s an archaic idea that has no place or purpose in a modern society - they’re human beings like all of us with nothing special about them at all.

Even just the thought of how many times the words 'joyous occasion' will be used in the BBC coverage is sickening. Combine that with those shots of the antiques roadshow front row crowds waving the flags and you're in for a treat. It's almost a guarantee that you'll be witness to atleast one interview with a family that's travelled from miles away and sweat it for hours before the event for a front row view. You'll hear all about the hardship of the journey and how it's worthwhile, how they've come prepared for the wait with their sharing tray bake (vegan) and then questions to the children no doubt about their age as if anyone even cares. Throw in hearing a load of useless facts from various royal correspondents for hours on end, with the overlays of even more antiques roadshow enjoyers and it's a must watch.
