And you think that is right? How can the British government criticise Putin for arresting peaceful protestors in Russia when it arrests peaceful protestors in London before they even get a chance to start protesting?

That "known protest group" has been cooperating with the Police for weeks. They had told the Met what they wanted to do and where and a plan had been agreed with the Police in advance. But by following the rules for peaceful protests they shot themselves in the foot because the Police knew exactly where the protestors were going to meet up to get their placards from the van. Hence it was easy to arrest the protestors with the van and confiscate their placards when it arrived at the pick-up point.

Are you kidding? The Police knew all about the van already. That protest group was totally honest about their plans for the day and had discussed what they wanted to do with the Police well in advance. Besides, the van contained placards and bottles of water. All the Police had to do was look in it to see that it didn't contain a bomb!

They did inform the Police exactly what protesting they were planning to do. Yes, there had been back-and-forth communication with the Police for weeks beforehand. Where are protestors going to get their placards from now that the Met have confiscated a Luton van full of them?

These are not "Just Stop Oil" or "Extinction Rebellion" protestors. But laws which were drafted to tackle their protests are now being misused to stop protests against the monarchy. Furthermore, the new anti-protest laws were given royal assent by Charles last Tuesday and came into effect last Wednesday, just in time for the Coronation.

The Police already knew the timetable of these protestors because they had discussed it with them in advance, ostensibly to prevent any conflict, ensure public safety and avoid them doing anything which would be illegal. Thus it was easy for the Police to swoop in before the protest had even begun, arrest the ringleaders and confiscate all their placards. The position of the van at that time was also known to the Police as it was at the designated pick-up point for protestors to get their placards and water bottles!

That sort of disingenuous anti-terrorism excuse just won't wash in this case.
You won't get much support in here pal. Bow down and kiss the ring or accept it via your own ring. Only two options.

Possibly the rozzers thought they weren't to be trusted not to do something rash? As one who sees the only hope for the UK to be a benevolent dictator, the police in this matter acted proactively and correctly. Unusually they have my full support for taking some decisive action at long last.

Hundreds of thousands of British workers; among them doctors, nurses, teachers, train drivers, and postal/airport workers, have walked out of work to demand better pay in recent months and yet the government see no problem wasting £100 million of taxpayers' money on a Coronation.

I'd like to see the Crown Estate nationalised. It's worth tens of billions of pounds and generates a huge annual income for the UK sovereign. Money which could be better spent on the NHS and public services as well as ensuring the most vulnerable have an adequate income.

Probably one of the reasons the Crown estates work efficiently and profitably is their workers aren't on strike or work to rule every five minutes <LOL>

erm no, the money goes to the treasury not the sovereign. It already does go to the public purse. Kindly get your facts right. Even a basic wiki search would show you that:

The revenues from these hereditary possessions have been placed by the monarch at the disposition of His Majesty's Government in exchange for relief from the responsibility to fund the Civil Government.

The Crown Estate is incredibly well run and a joy to work with when I've had the opportunity. Everyone there I've encountered is decent and on the ball. It's no surprise to me they make a profit. Put that anymore in MPs/whitehall's control and watch it disintegrate quicker than you can say privatisation auction.

Superb spectacle, I’m sure many will be bleating about the cost to the taxpayer, what they choose to ignore is the influx of tourists that will follow after seeing this, like them or loathe them, the Royal Family brings far more to our economy than they take from it.

I think there’s many a nation that can only dream of this kind of event and its surroundings, we do it better than anyone else, and should rightly be proud of what we can put on as a nation despite our unwillingness to accept that actually we’re far from the basket case some would like to portray us as a nation….

Each and every one of those workers had a pretty good idea of the pay rates in the sector they chose to work in, before they chose to work in it.

Also it's ironic that a post criticising the public sector pay controlled by the publicly elected government should be used as a reason to be anti-monarchy. Because if we got rid of the monarchy we'd have a publicly elected head of state costing just as much, if not more, demanding public funds to sustain them, and still not controlling decisions made by the MPs. Unless of course we want to move from a parliament to a presidential system, which would seem to be a step backward in empowering the collective will of the people.

One two three…

”Land of ho-ope and glor-ree” :D

Auntie had David Olusoga on as a pundit for a good chunk of the in-studio coronation coverage.

They didn't ask him much, but when they did, he shared his views that the coronation isn't as impressive or important to other countries as we might think it is.
