This is very shallow of me, and I'm sure I'm no oil painting, but I'm always struck by just how unattractive our royal family is.

They're mostly one or all of bald, buck toothed, goggly eyed, or big nosed.

The Princess of Wales has hopefully remedied the situation (phwoar) but apart from that, they're 3s at best.

I wonder if like the Dutch and Austrian royal families look at ours and think that they managed to export the ugly ones.

In breading does that

The Queens death was a fabulous opportunity for people to realise that they loved the Queen, not the monarchy. But we missed it, and instead spent however many millions or billions on pointless ceremonies involving processions and solid gold coaches and other utter wasteful and tasteless pomp, while there is a housing crisis, and a this crisis and a that crisis and people are freezing and going hungry and whatever else.

What an utterly horrific and embarrassing state of affairs. People need to wake up and get a hold of themselves.
It was notable that the succession was clearly planned to happen as quickly as possible while emotions were heightened to ensure no one had the opportunity to raise that prospect. That was aided by censorship all around (in the name of “decorum“) including on here to mean the point couldn’t even be discussed. It will be interesting to see how people feel about the monarchy when Charles passes.

I believe that William is very popular and will be a popular monarch, especially having given the ginger outcast what for.

Really depends on the audience we're talking about and through what methods they intend on maintaining that popularity. What is the chance that they forgo any sense of humanity and just let a company whose language revolves entirely around tech-related buzzwords take over their PR machine?

Trying to remain relevant to a youth gorging themselves on the most corrosive, incendiary trash the internet is pumping out is going to be kind of awkward.

Problem is William is 40 now, he could well be 60 by the time he gets the thone. Hardly relevant to the youth of the day.

May be irrelevant if current trends continue.

Funny that such a high percentage of Conservative voters are in favour and yet were happy to overlook Johnson royally ******* off the Queen when he decided to prorogue Parliament.

It's hilarious watching people lose the plot over the monarchy. Yeah let's abolish the monarchy, revenue drops and the land they own goes to the highest bidder. Loads of houses/flats get built and everyone complains they can't afford them so the rich buy them all up to rent out. Well done. Clowns.

Why would revenue drop? You could fully open all the palaces to the public, that would raise even more revenue. 15 million people visit the Palace of Versailles every year and they haven't had a royal family for 225 years. Windsor Castle gets 1.4 million a year, pathetic really, now imagine you could tour the whole castle, I'm sure those numbers would rise dramatically.

The huge estates that belong to the sovereign earn millions a year, that won't change, they will likely earn far more. A wing of Buckingham Palace could be used to shelter homeless ex service men and women that have fallen on hard times, isn't that a better use than a family born in the right cot? Protection costs if we had a president would drop dramatically, protecting 1 person their partner and young children if they have them is a bit different to a whole extended family.
