But that's pretty much what the monarch does already! All the Royal Prerogative powers are under the control of the Prime Minister, so during Privy Council meetings the King just rubber stamps what the PM wants doing. What did you think the monarch in the UK does?

Not sure what you mean really. Their countries are not the UK and the popularity of their monarchies with tourists surely reflects the popularity of their countries with tourists, not how much public money is spent on them. 'Ours is legit'? So are their monarchies. Surely, they should be congratulated for not wasting public money.

Why should slimming down our bloated monarchy make much difference to the tourist business they generate?

I suspect that they've never thought it through properly. A lot of them will also be foreign tourists who love the old-worldie feel of it. The reason we have Charles as King is because he is the descendant of the strongest robber Barons. I much prefer egalitarianism and meritocracy to the current anachronistic constitutional arrangement.

For example, Charles went to one of the top boarding schools in Britain but he only achieved five O-Level passes and two A-Levels - a B in History and a C in French. However, he still went on to study at Trinity College, University of Cambridge, for his degree. The top university in the country at that time. If he had been a normal person then he would have ended up at a Polytechnic with those qualifications!

But he's not a normal person, very far from it. That's the way it is, life's a bitch :)

Wouldn't you hate the person who is the reason your mum died?

Also in checking dates I just stumbled across the fact that Charles was 32 when he married 18 year old Diana. That's quite an age gap.

Camilla was the driver? Wow, reopen the case immediately...

Getting the pick of pretty bints is a perk of the job of being next in succession to the throne, even if beauty turns out to exceed brains. <shrug>. Semi arranged marriages have their pros and cons.

She died in a car crash in a dangerous road tunnel without barriers, in a car driven allegedly very fast by a drunk driver and not wearing a seat belt.

Nothing at all to do with Camilla. Charles may be more at fault for thier seperation but the actual circumstances of the crash have nothing to do with either of them.

The age gap was well known and commented on at the time.

Aye, much like the weapons inspector David Kelly who committed 'suicide' ;)

I am no expert terrorist, murderer or hit man, far from it, but even I know that trying to arrange someone's reliable death in a forced road accident, without witnesses or the risk of a survivor saying something "awkward" is a ridiculous ploy given a good sharp shooter with a modern weapon could have taken her head off from hundreds of yards away. It's a ridiculous way to try and bump someone off.

Not everyone swallows the presses load like you do though Chris; so explaining a bullet to the head as an "accident" and not at all a "hit", would be a bit of an issue.

Mitchell and Webb ripped the whole Diana assassination conspiracy nonsence up years ago....

Hang on, what is going on with this thread, i thought it was about the coronation, not dianas assassination

unless suddenly any time soon charles is suddenly involved in some kind of incident inside a tunnel in a car at high speed ...hmm they say that those who do not learn from history tend to repeat it

In a few months, we have had a transfer of soft power from one generation to another at a tenth of the cost of a US presidential election and we do not need to do that every four years.

Nobody got shot, there were no riots. There were a couple of dozen arrests for behaviour not conducive etc. Charges are unlikely to follow.

7000 troops on the streets and everybody had a good time albeit a bit wet. Tens or hundreds of thousands turned out to enjoy the show.

What is not to like really. ;)

I diddnt watch it at all. I was too busy doing home renmovating.

Not bothered about the royal family.

God save the king

Although I did indeed comment, for chuckles, I did not watch it. Reason : guaranteed yawnfest and that’s without going into the brown nosing!

Still, and I say it again, I am sure it gave a certain demographic a sense of relief the country was not imploding for a day due to the crushing spanking the Kippers got in the local elections.

And my school not only had a latin motto but a whole school song in latin.
