But that's pretty much what the monarch does already! All the Royal Prerogative powers are under the control of the Prime Minister, so during Privy Council meetings the King just rubber stamps what the PM wants doing. What did you think the monarch in the UK does?
Not sure what you mean really. Their countries are not the UK and the popularity of their monarchies with tourists surely reflects the popularity of their countries with tourists, not how much public money is spent on them. 'Ours is legit'? So are their monarchies. Surely, they should be congratulated for not wasting public money.
Why should slimming down our bloated monarchy make much difference to the tourist business they generate?
I suspect that they've never thought it through properly. A lot of them will also be foreign tourists who love the old-worldie feel of it. The reason we have Charles as King is because he is the descendant of the strongest robber Barons. I much prefer egalitarianism and meritocracy to the current anachronistic constitutional arrangement.
For example, Charles went to one of the top boarding schools in Britain but he only achieved five O-Level passes and two A-Levels - a B in History and a C in French. However, he still went on to study at Trinity College, University of Cambridge, for his degree. The top university in the country at that time. If he had been a normal person then he would have ended up at a Polytechnic with those qualifications!
But he's not a normal person, very far from it. That's the way it is, life's a bitch
