It's hilarious watching people lose the plot over the monarchy. Yeah let's abolish the monarchy, revenue drops and the land they own goes to the highest bidder. Loads of houses/flats get built and everyone complains they can't afford them so the rich buy them all up to rent out. Well done. Clowns.

I never seen any of this. I wasn’t that interested.

Nobody will ever replace the Queen imo. You could clearly see Charles was a reluctant participant from the photos on BBC news. I can’t imagine the pressure he was under today.

I can't imagine caring to be honest. Hopefully the extra stress kills him off.

Then he can go and party with his bestie Jimmy.

Abolishing the monarchy doesn't mean they go away...

What would actually happen is revenue draw would stay the same or possibly even increase, because we can then sell tickets to all the yanks who want a complete guided tour around all the opulent buildings the royal family used to own.

Maybe open a museum or 20 as well. Maybe turn those opulent buildings INTO museums!

Having a monarchy in 2023 is frankly ludicrous, especially when the people in said monarchy are as demonstrably awful as they are... Best friends with the most notorious paedophile the country has ever known? Pro fox hunting and other cruel sports? Completely out of touch with society, fumbling and useless, treats his staff like dirt... Yeah what a fabulous unelected leader. King my ******* arse.

Flush it all down the pan and turn the palace into a museum. Perhaps they can continue to live there and people can peer at them through glass like the out-of-time curiosities they are.

The Queens death was a fabulous opportunity for people to realise that they loved the Queen, not the monarchy. But we missed it, and instead spent however many millions or billions on pointless ceremonies involving processions and solid gold coaches and other utter wasteful and tasteless pomp, while there is a housing crisis, and a this crisis and a that crisis and people are freezing and going hungry and whatever else.

What an utterly horrific and embarrassing state of affairs. People need to wake up and get a hold of themselves.

I don't think you understand how tourism, the monarchy or - to be a bit blunt - money works.

If you think for one second that we'd be better off financially without the royals, you are in fact very, very wrong.

If you want me to illustrate this point let me know, happy to dig out some numbers.

You may dig out whatever numbers you like, I won't believe for once second that they were drawn up in an unbiased and fair way.

The government and the media in this country have done their very best to paint the core of the royal family in the best light they think they can get away with for generations.

Regardless, that is only one part of a multi faceted problem.

Anyway thats enough of this discussion for me, I left this forum for a reason. I'll just leave my thoughts here and exit. :p

We both know you're going to read this so let's not pretend otherwise, despite your "lol this is my opinion and ur all rong lol" nonsense.

Where would you like the facts to come from? I agree that there is far too much bias in the media and government, but most of us are able to see straight through it and analyze actual facts. I doubt you'll respond to this but if you do actually want to have a reasonable debate instead of running away, let me know. I'm more than happy to be proven wrong.

How dare you be right. :p

Okay I said what I said with a lot of anger and passion. I'm sure there is some truth to what you are saying.

But I don't have the energy or the want to debate it quite honestly. I regret visiting this thread at all. :o

Fair enough, as you can tell this is a fairly charged topic already and me being me, I'm like moth to a flame.

Hope you don't leave though, it's been nice seeing you back :)

I will still be around elsewhere probably <3

Hundreds of thousands of British workers; among them doctors, nurses, teachers, train drivers, and postal/airport workers, have walked out of work to demand better pay in recent months and yet the government see no problem wasting £100 million of taxpayers' money on a Coronation.

I'd like to see the Crown Estate nationalised. It's worth tens of billions of pounds and generates a huge annual income for the UK sovereign. Money which could be better spent on the NHS and public services as well as ensuring the most vulnerable have an adequate income.

Do you think the Tories would spend the money on doctors, nurses, teachers, train drivers, and postal/airport workers instead? No, they choose not to. It's political ideology. Nothing to do with having to keep £100m back for a Coronation.

Haven't seen any elaboration on what Harry's role would have been - identical to brother? or that was exclusively for next in succession.

Isn't the old phrase the Heir and the spare?

Presumably just a backup copy in case the original gets corrupted - 'I knew I should have backed up sooner and at least twice!'
