***Wimbledon 2017 Official Thread***

Going to ask the big, predictable question now... Who's everybody backing for the mens single final?

My bets on Federer - Murray. Though I'm basing that purely on how he played at Queens and the tournament so far. Been sadly out of the loop for the past year of Tennis
:(

I think predicting the top4 to the make the semis is a safe enough bet. Past that.... I have no idea. :p

Shame Watson didn't win today. Oh well, Konta up next and according to the news earlier, she's the bookies favourite??

I take it people here saw this? Ugh, just found out this is old. :s BBC posting this in new articles.

This is a good match. Murray not getting an easy ride here. Murray 2 sets to 1, Fognini is about to make this 2 sets each, it's 5-2 in the 4th set. And there's quite a bit of tension on court from both players plus plenty of challenges.

It's good that you took up Pigeon's mantle here in making the early call although in fairness I don't think many people would have expected Murray to come back from that position and reel off five straight games. He should have been dead and buried in that set but somehow found a way through in a very tense match, Fognini plays some unbelievable shots and then can just seem disinterested in the next few games for no obvious reason.

Also good to see that Jo Konta went through with a pretty confident display. A bit disappointing for Watson and Bedene but both seemed to play well in patches from what I could tell on the text commentary so I'm hoping they can build on this.

People still watch woman's tennis? With all the ridiculous screaming I cannot remember the last time I bothered.

I watched a few highlights of the Watson game and was genuinely angry she lost as the other woman was a good awful screamer, or groaner might be more accurate.

Surprisingly I was watching some women's tennis today, the Kerber and the Radi-super Polish sounding name I can't spell and both matches had what seemed to be no excessive grunting or irritating screaming :o

It was quite surprising. Like you I've pretty much given up on women's tennis as it's so irritating to watch in the past, well, decade. There are some dudes out there who are just as bad.

Agree about the grunting. It's bad enough when they grunt hitting the ball but some of the grunts last until their opponent hits the ball which is just unsporting conduct as far as I'm concerned.

Having said that, and agreeing with DM above, all of the women's games I've watched on and off today have all been excellent. Radwanska, Kerber and now the Wozniacki game. Minimal grunting and some fantastic tennis.

Edit: Cameraman's on form today, picked out some right stunners.

Edit: Federer through in straight sets but the bottom half of the draw is ridiculously tough compared to the top so if Federer's to win it again he'll have to beat Dimitrov, Raonic/Zverev, Djokovic and then Murray or Nadal assuming they all make it.
