Windows 10 FAQ

Can we have a guide fir getting Cortana to work.

All the speech, text to speech, handwriting. Only has English(us) installed despite region, time, language being UK.(probably as I'm still running insider and did have it set as US in the past)
Downloaded everything in UK, gone to speech and switched default from US to UK and it's still not working.

Did you restart? I also had to go into the settings on www.bing.com and change my location there from Belfast to UK. Cortana didn't start working immediately but did after some messing around in the settings, although it's still a bit broken and tells me it isn't working when it (mostly) is.

About changing the language ext to UK is actually already in faq :P

  • Time and language in settings > Region and Language > Install the UK pack. Keyboard / Speech / Handwriting.
  • Restart
  • Go to Time / language and > speech change it to UK (it will now be an option.)
  • She should now work for you.

If Outlook from Office doesn't send any emails after upgrading to 10, or you get the error message cannot connenct to network.

Simply open up a cmd prompt as admin and
sfc /scannow

should fix it.

Thats already in the FAQ :)

Random but anyone else experianced weird shutdown behaviour? Since installing 10 sometimes my PC doesnt shutdown all the way. The screen goes blank and all the USB devices power off but the computer doesnt shut down. Its as if the OS didnt pass the shutdown command to the motherboard after closing everything |:

ANytone else having problems downloading the ISO?

i want to do a fresh install on a SSD i picked up today but after 30 minutes the tool still says 0% progress :(

Mine took 12 hours to download... I kid you not!

Still not sure if it activate or not though on a laptop with UEFI firmware, which did have Windows 8.1 installed on it, but now has Linux!

I had to go into edge/bing also and alter it from using my town and region to search. I altered those to uk and my postcode and it worked perfectly for me after that.

Does anyone know if I can move the address bar in Edge onto the same line as the tabs for all the windows, or shrink the size? It's taking up far to much space for my liking.

Sorry if this has already been asked but if I do a upgrade from Windows 7 now and then change the motherboard, CPU and RAM within the first year, can I reinstall Windows 7 and again upgrade to 10 or has the Windows 7 license been lost to the upgrade?

you don't loose your W7 key, is it retail W7 you have or OEM?

if its OEM its tired to the motherboard so when its replaced the PC is classed as a new system.

I would do your hardware upgrade first and then upgrade to W10

You can always check post install if it's stuck with retail or 'converted' it to OEM by running SLMGR /dli from CMD.

Realistic icons is where printer show an image of the device itself rather than a generic printer icon etc.
