Windows 10 Game Mode these results look promising

I have
Well it's very messily implemented at the moment. Installed the win10 creator update, set everything up in the new "gaming" settings section, and could not bring up the gaming bar either on the desktop or in any games using Win + G or my xbox 360 pad central button.

Thanks to the post above I tried "Alt+ Enter" when in a game to take it out of full screen mode, and then tried Win + G and it brings up the game bar! Where on any Microsoft documentation does it say you need to do that!!?

On the game bar settings option there is then a little tick box option to "enable game mode for this game" or whatever it says. You then have to Alt + Enter to go back into full screen mode (I always run fullscreen due to best Gsync and SLI performance).

Couldn't see any real benefits whatsoever in FPS (using rivatuner stats). Tried turning on and off and then wouldn't let me mouse or control any options and had to ctrl alt delete quit out the game. what a load of *****!

I have the same issue.

SLI here as well, so I am not sure if that's the common denominator.

On my system. The gaming bar starts to make my windows UI lag. Especially in windows explorer, where you could be waiting minutes for a new folder to create, where I end up rebooting. I don't have this problem if I disable the gaming bar in the settings.

I wonder if this 'Game Mode' will stop W10 from constantly performing all manner of activity in the background when I'm trying to do stuff, which at times causes things to grind to a halt. Example, was playing EVE the other night and W10 decided that that would be a good time to run something called Compatelrunner.exe, this despite me having edited the relevant entries in Task Scheduler to prevent this rubbish from running. That's just one example, currently it's decided to download an update, right in the middle of me enjoying another game. Had to quit and am now waiting for the update to download. And don't get me started on how ******* long W10 takes to download a ******* update.

Someone I know has lost more than one ship in eve due to going afk i.e. cloaked ship in hostile space and finding Windows has decided to restart to apply updates.

Similar stuff is ******* me off with my Windows 10 tablet - not exactly the most powerful device in the first place so Windows doing background prep for updates or other tasks grinds it to a halt.

I don't get why so many people just accept this stuff and settle for a half arsed product when they could be putting pressure on MS to deliver something better.

Well i really wanted to try this out but what a ****storm im having. I installed the update today however i went to re enable the windows game bar and every time i do it just turns itself off again. I have tried to change this in the registry in the following lines

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\GameDVR\AppCaptureEnabled ( i changed this to 1 )
&
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\System\GameConfigStore\GameDVR_Enabled ( i changed this to 1 )

The top one changes back to 0 instantly and the second changes back to 0 upon reboot.

I have uninstalled the Xbox App via powershell and re installed it to no avail.

Here is a video of the above happening.

It's become to frustrating to try and continue tonight but i would love any advice on repairing this as i am reluctant to re install windows because i always have issues with my key not activating(genuine windows). I am going to post in the windows area too in case anyone in there knows.

Jeez! This is causing me mega frame pacing issues on my G-Sync monitor. Think I'll keep this turned off!

Edit: For some reason the update had set my monitors refresh rate to 60hz instead on 144hz. All sorted now :)

So far no major issues with game mode (aside from having to window it sometimes to enable it), but also I am not seeing any advantage.

I game at 21:9, but 60hz ( I need to upgrade this!), so my SLI config usually hits 60 fps with everything I chuck at it currently.

Time will tell I assume.

frame pacing issues sorted?

i had same issue as you. also got gsync monitor.

i think its more related to game bar than game mode. maybe both.

So how does one get this game mode working then? I have the update installed and the Gaming options in my Settings panel with everything set correctly, but no matter what I press in game (WIN+G or the XBox button on the controller) I simply cannot get the game bar overlay thing to open. All it does is flash the screen the a couple of times.

if this is happening you need to put the game into window mode then the bar should work.. switch game mode on for that game then switch back to full screen..

don't get why people keep saying it doesn't work R.E the game bar.. if you read in the settings it says 'activate game bar for games that Microsoft has verified' so abviously it doesn't work in full screen with every game.. in that case you have to try windowed mode (just to activate it)

Seem to be in a minority but this absolutely ruined my FPS and had to revert back to the previous build. Funny thing is that when I was in game and pressed the Win + G to get the bar up, FPS would come back to normal. Soon as I left the bar and got back into game, locked to 40 and horrible grinding to a halt slowdowns.

Rolled back to previous. Screwed up my RAT profile editor, amazing how you miss something really simple! I have my 2 main games FPS locked anyway so that gain is pointless.

Totally transforms the few games my rig was starting to struggle with.
For example to hit a consistent 144fps on my 144hz monitor I had to turn a lot of stuff to low on BF1 when I turn game mode on I can now run ultra preset and get a solid 144fps.
This is on 5 year old i5 2500k @4.4ghz and GTX970 , all my games are seeing a large boost in performance, I see no reason to have to upgrade just yet :)

144fps @ ultra with I5 and 970???

surely not?

I find it extremely hard to believe you are running BF1 on Ultra preset at a constant 144fps with that hardware. Is this MP or SP?

MP ofcourse, I'm getting 144fps most of the time and the odd dip to 90 fps minimum, since my post earlier I used the fps console command to monitor fps and it was a constant 90-144fps [only the odd time it will drop form 144fps], previous to that I ran with no fps counter and it played so fluid it felt like a constant 144fps , maybe the gsync helps too, either way the performance increase I'm seeing is huge.
Everything ive read about game mode suggests older spec rigs see huge performance boost where as high spec not so much.
By the way I'm running @ 1080p
