Windows 10 or 11?

11 is fine these days, but people don't like change just like trying to get people off 7 to 10.

Problem is, you need the right hardware to run Win11, plenty of users like myself where we cannot upgrade to 11, when I'm ready to spend hundreds or even thousands of pounds on new hardware, then I will consider a Win11 install, so some of the issues are with Microsoft and not the users, we don't all have latest hardware for PCs.

I have always upgraded since DOS days , but right now not have the compatible hardware for Win11, which is probably the most restrictive OS of all time since day one (hardware wise).

You never know maybe I have the money for new hardware when Win12 arrives ;) .

Pretty happy with 10 at the moment, especially since I can't jump on 11 right now even if I wanted to.

This is what worries me about windows 11. Out the box compatibility.

Will my hardware I order support it?

Hence why I was considering w10.

pc up and running today! :)

one thing I cant seem to sort is removing the PIN login, before it takes you to the desktop..

I have tried the settings but the button to "remove" the PIN is greyed out??

So at that point why not just Windows 10?
:confused::cry:

Sure it is a different OS in terms of underlying feature support and newer updates/security but it amuses me how many people do down Windows 7, talk up 10 yet spend a lot of time turning Windows 10 into 7.

New laptop so wouldn't want to mess around with paritions until it's out of warranty. Guess could get 1TB NVME and leave the 512GB unaltered.

Microsoft PC-DOS 1.0 has low overheads. :)

I think it's more a case of 10 or 11 because they are the only two Microsoft Operating Systems still officially supported by Microsoft, sure you can use Linux( I do as well) but for gaming and security updates pretty much only 10 or 11 for now.

I still miss Dos 6.22 but have moved with the times for the most part, only thing holding me back to the latest is my hardware is not supported on 11 unless I use the well known " hack ".

Anyway I wonder how long before we see Win12 :) .

I wouldn't miss 7 at all if they actually made a newer, better OS - but when you actually need a system you can rely on for productivity, etc. Windows 10/11 just doesn't cut it - messing around with multiple 3rd party tools just to make the OS somewhat useable just isn't an acceptable situation - sure we all like to customise our Windows experience but that is another matter again over being a necessity for basic functionality.

Speaking of customising our OS, am i the only one who sometimes uses a default Windows experience and wonders how people who don't customise things manage to get things done.

11 has not been worth it in the slightest for me tbh.

It's given me no benefits, but it has:
- Broken my sound card due to driver issues
- Caused drivers and software to crash more frequently
- Stopped me using the calendar on multiple screens
- Inconsistent UI decisions. Does it want to be rounded or square? Make your mind up
- USB issues
- AMD performance issues... Again.
- Clock keeps resetting to GMT during BST hours

I think I'm done for now

I moved over to W11 and find it quite nice to be honest. But I'm far from a power user. Haven't had any issues yet.

I personally enjoy change but that's kind of what I do for a living.

Change can be good - but not when you already have an optimal work flow for whatever you are doing and also many technically less literate or just not naturally inclined towards computer use people learn to use computers step by step and can find some of the kind of changes MS makes challenging.

Not when it breaks your workflow. :)

No that's fair enough. But in which case you don't need to upgrade if it's going to cause that sort of disruption.

I guess if it helps to change / optimise it'll take some getting used to but if there's no way of doing it then I completely agree it's not going to help.

It's funny how you get used to something though but it could just be you've optimised work flow based on poor software capability?? I'm not suggesting windows 11 fixes it at all, you know more about it than I do. However from a human behaviour perspective we adapt to what we have and naturally exploit processes and workflows to suit our needs. Something like a new operating system can throw all those habits out which of course is disruptive.

I believe they're already talking about windows 12?
