Windows 10

I would, even if it's dual booting with current OS and use 3 different Microsoft accounts. Worst case is you wasted a few hours and back to how you are now.

It's lookin more likely it is indeed free and no license required. If it is the case, remember you need to be signed up to the insider program, go to the Microsoft site and enrol. and your Microsoft account needs to be activated in windows 10.

Even more news sites talking about it now.

Edit - how come you need more licenses anyway? Or are you still running lots n XP.

Thanks for the info Glaucus

I bought a license for my main machine which turned out to be dodgy (not my fault) and never replaced it, I would also like to run a copy on my MacBook Air and a new HTPC

I'm thinking I could just stick a small spare hard drive in my PC and HTPC then register and install Windows 10 TP on them. I'm guessing I could install 10 TP via Bootcamp on the MBA?

Would I need to register for the insider program for each machine or could I use my existing account?

I don't have a clue about MBA.

The question was asked on twitter about multiple computers on same account and no reply, so we don't know. However Gabriel did reply that it was locked to that pc and not transferable.

Like all off this we don't relay know. It's so all unclear, they really need some communication training or policies.

I wonder if they accidentally revealed it to early. They could just switch of preview registration till release. That's assuming what's been said is accurate.

It might cover all bases and just go ahd install it for each machine, i'll have to work out how to do it for the MBA, I could also use a different email for each machine to join the insider program if needed.

Again would be simpler if MS just made it free or cheap. In todays market of free capable OS's I think MS need to pull a rabbit out of a hat!

Do you need separate MS accounts to have multiple licenses? I have the Preview on my main PC at the moment, but my old server at home runs Windows XP. Does anyone know if I can upgrade that to the Preview on my current MS account or will I need to register another to then get that PC onto a free upgrade after the Preview is finished?

I've tried searching but can't find the answer, again it would make life much simpler if we could sign up multiple machines to the same insider account.

Just been reading a bit about virtual machine, think I understand how they work! might it be easier to use a VM on each machine and install Windows 10 TP. I wouldn't want to use the TP but as soon as the full version is released I'd install that as defualt OS on each machine :)

Thining about trying out Windows 10 now.

I've been an insider for a while, but reverted back to Windows 7. How is it for gaming now? I understand Nvidia have released drivers.

I'm finding it terrible on 10130. Massive stutters and generally slow.

I was going to try 10130 today just so I can get my free copy, but I think I'll wait (though I have downloaded the ISO and copied the key) based on your comment. Don't like the idea of losing gaming performance. One of my mates reckons his is fine, but he's got an absolute beast of a PC, mine is merely mid-range.

It's only an issue with that build, gaming in w10 will be absolutely fine. It more than likely wither a bug or broke something in the w8 drivers. I'm running an older 500 series gfx card so no official w10 drivers.

i have 3 computer using the same Microsoft account, would the product keys/hardware id's, be all stored in that or would i need to make 3 separate accounts?

I imagine if you log in to multiple PC's with the same MSA you'll only "legally" be able to upgrade one of them, same idea as product keys = one key, one pc.

I'm wondering where I stand here as I have a Laptop (Windows 10TP clean install) and a HP microserver ( Windows 8.1 MSDN key) and a "spare windows 8" key (Home I think).

Now I have my MSA as my main login on the Laptop (Windows 10TP) and as a secondary account on the HP ( Main account being a local, non-email account). The HP had the upgrade dialog box appear and I have reserved it.

I'm presuming I'll be able to have two separate copies of Windows 10:confused:, or only one?

Yes the only consistent thing about Microsoft's communication is that it's completely ****. Half answers, wrong answers, misleading answers and contradictions all over the place, even from the same people!

How difficult would it have been to just write a clear and concise list of points.

Thanks.

I'll leave it just now as I'm currently playing through The Witcher 3 and Batman comes out this week. I don't want to ruin the experience of both these great games.

Is there anyone else here that had builds up to 10122 install fine, but newer builds (starting with 10130) keep doing crash loops?

With a 10130 ISO on a pen drive, the crash loop happens with the Windows logo present, before I reach the installation setup.

If I use Windows Update to go from build 10074 or 10122 to 10130, the crash loop prevents me from ever reaching the login screen on Windows 10 ever again.

I don't think MS knows themselves what's going on and they are still deciding.

I bet it will become all clear within the next few weeks before the release.

I was happily running Defender on all the builds I've tried with no other Virus software installed, as I know it disables Defender (used to run Avast on 7 and 8.1)

I'd been running 10130 since it hit the Fast Ring, no problems!!! Then I just started getting this message:

On every boot!

I tried to turn Defender back on in the 'Security and Maintenance' section, the button did nothing! I had a look in the Settings App under 'Update and Security' but it's all greyed out in there!

So I had a look in the Services.msc at the Defender Service, to see if I can turn it on...

I find it's set to 'Manual' not automatic and it's also greyed out, so I can't change it, and no amount of clicking 'Start' will make anything happen!!!!

All the fixes I find on line are for earlier versions of windows, some taking me into the Registry (which I'm not frightened of!) but Windows 10 seems to have moved Defender from where it was under Windows 7 and 8.1

I've gotten to my wits end now and installed Avast, to at least give me some protection! But I'm still getting the First 'Nag Screen' on EVERY BOOT and there's no way to switch it off!!!

Did a clean install of windows 10 from usb, on boot from power off when I get to desktop font is 150% and lan does not work

When I restart font is back to normal and lan works? Any thoughts?
