that doesn't mean it won't happen, they didn't say it won't ever happen... what i can see may happen windows 10 to turn in to just "windows"

There's no money in consumer OS sales any more. Retail sales are a tiny fraction, and OEM licenses are already free for OEMs to put 'with Bing' versions on devices under 15", and only $15 each above that.

It will, as you say, just become 'Windows' and be continually upgraded and updated for free from now on just like Android, iOS, OSX, etc.

Microsoft revenue streams are from business licensing and through subscription and cloud services now.

if thats the case why haven't they made it totally free meaning not just for a year. and why make people buy it just so they can keep upgrading hardware

It is 'totally free' for almost everyone.

Every existing 7 or 8.1 device sold with the OS pre-installed, every single new device sold with Windows pre-installed, and every self built machine using an OEM license gets it for free.

The only people who don't get it totally free are retail customers. Instead they get 10 on one device totally free, which is in line with all other users.

Hmmm build 10158 is much better than recently builds, finally downloads from store are much faster as fast as Windows 8.1 store.

I noticed one thing missing from 10158, no insider hub app if you wondered about it too, I found out it can be installed from optional features.

Insider Hub is no longer pre-installed starting with this build. You can reinstall the Insider Hub app through the following steps:
•Go to Settings, System, Apps & features.
•Click Manage optional features then Add a feature.
•Select the Insider Hub entry (the list is in alphabetical order) and click Install.

what i mean, the offer is only for one year. so if it is totally free then don't make it an limited time offer

also example, linx u just go to the site and download then install on any computer at any time, upgrade whatever hardware you want etc.. i class that as totally free

I'm not having any driver issues and I use both my Nvidia and Intel graphics on the PC I have Windows 10 on. You should be OK.

Andi.

^^^^ Agree but kinda like 8.1, with the Classic Shell installed.

Windows 10 first impressions though are positive, more than I could say about 8.

Well it updated my 10147 build to the 10158 build without issue.

It is always nice to be able to have an OS install with all your needed drivers to get up and running, sometimes without the need to search for anything "better".

I'll have a play with the OS later to see what refinements there are over the last build but, as I have played with the OS very little and even less with the browser, how do I import a bookmarks.html file into Edge, and thus restore my bookmarks from an exported FF file...?

Did you just try and make a comparison between Windows and Linux in terms of licensing?

I have exactly the same problem - have a thread going about this in the win 10 forums, but no solution  Anybody have a link to the iso please.

Mark

I end up downloaded ISO build 10158 x64 at the end. But there is no MD5 or SHA-1 available. Bit security risky! I would rather wait for Microsoft UK 10158 ISO here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/preview-iso

I wish Microsoft hurry up put on the site!

A lot of companies won't release drivers for a new operating system until it has been 'officially' released unfortunately, even though they have almost certainly already got them tested and ready to go.
