Windows 10

Issues wtih WinRAR and Win 10?

Have a paid version of WinRAR and in the middle of doing a fresh install on the Ultrabook (Gaming rig can wait until the weekend)

If this is the case I will wait for a new version and just use 7 zip for now :)

I am using Winrar 5.30 Beta1 (Licensed) on my laptop and PC without any problems. I just extracted a 400mb website backup and also opened and browsed a 20gig archive with no problems.

Winrar was carried over from Windows 8 as I done an upgrade and not a clean install. Maybe the problem only exists on a clean install...Not sure.

I cant figure out how to change wallpapers for each screen using dual monitors.

Are you supposed to be able to do that then? It isn't possible in Windows 7, and I'm not sure it is in 8/8.1 either.

You can do it with third party programs though. :)

Choose the Slideshow background and pick a folder with a collection of wallpapers. You can't choose what shows where though :(. It's not bad though, if you have 2 monitors then just point it to a folder with 2 wallpapers. The worst that will happen is they'll switch round, which isn't a bad thing actually.

Looks like Windows 10 still hasn't resolved the biggest Windows 8 issue... the bubbles screensaver background doesn't stay as the desktop and instead becomes a horrid generic colour taking up the whole screen. Used to love the bubbles bouncing off my desktop on Win 7.

Absolute shot in the dark here, and probably not related to your issue......but were you using PIN access to logon instead of password ?

One weird thing that was present in the RTM (and I'm going to assume the final release, though I haven't tried it), was a limitation put on certain network related services when using a PIN logon, usually following a fresh install rather than an upgrade.
Was very strange, as it had a number of people, including myself, jumping through hoops, re-configuring services on NAS devices, editing Windows settings etc etc, with very little success...............................and all it was in the end, was the PIN logon (which is very handy to be fair) blocking certain services from starting up.
Switching to normal password immediately solved the issue.

Im still using the PIN to login with the local account and network shares are working fine, it only didn't work when i converted to a microsoft account, after converting my account back to local it works again.

Yes paid but it might be the way the rar file is coming from the site and not winrar i will do a few test when back from work.

lol, i worded it wrong. I mean i cant figure out how to set different wallpapers on each screen. When i hit personalize it just shows one screen, instead of two like in windows 8. When i set a wallpaper it just sets the same wallpaper on both screens.

99% sure my issues are related to my SSD (Samsung SM951). I've had a couple of issues with it since I bought it, mainly boot loops which have needed 8.1 installing again. Every now and then on a boot Windows has been scanning and repairing the C:\ as well.

I looked at the drive health last night using SSD Life and it was showing 65%. So I did a reboot with chkdsk /r running which gave loads of errors and the drive is now at 45%. So RMA time.

Posting this from the same PC running Windows 10... albeit with an old Crucial 1TB SSD I forgot I had. :D

So it looks like my SM951 was indeed knackered.

Anyone having repeated and random issues, might be worth looking into the heath of your HDD.

Cheers.

I will give this a test later when I install the rest of the software on the laptop.

As for the gaming rig, its the nearly 3TB of Steam games I will have to download again as my 3TB backup drive went last week so no way of backing up my folder at present.

Still really hate how there's two ways to do everything. I was (naively) hoping it was still WIP, but nope, release build is the same. I HATE that there is settings AND Control Panel etc. Yes, Settings will be easier for novices and father in laws, but I don't want it on my system... If we must, why not just make Control Panel more like it and have only that, with options to limit it to Settings levels??

MS like to make buttons/menus!! :D

Done it now, you need to press ctrl then select the two images and then set as desktop background, not sure if this is common knowledge but it seems stupid to me. Windows 8/8.1 let you set it from the personalize menu either choosing screen 1 or 2 to set whatever wallpaper you want.

Aaargh! Does anyone know how to get my Titan to downclock when idle?

This has become a blight on the whole experience. Really no idea why it ends up at max mhz for no reason.

Ran a process monitor and nothing is accessing the GPU neither.
