Windows 10

Still really hate how there's two ways to do everything. I was (naively) hoping it was still WIP, but nope, release build is the same. I HATE that there is settings AND Control Panel etc. Yes, Settings will be easier for novices and father in laws, but I don't want it on my system... If we must, why not just make Control Panel more like it and have only that, with options to limit it to Settings levels??

Seems like they're still trying to cater for both the touchscreen AIO users as well as the keyboard mouse users. No wonder they're calling it the 'final' version of Windows...

Done it now, you need to press ctrl then select the two images and then set as desktop background, not sure if this is common knowledge but it seems stupid to me. Windows 8/8.1 let you set it from the personalize menu either choosing screen 1 or 2 to set whatever wallpaper you want.

Your desktop wallpaper requires you to buy a 3rd screen by the end of the year :p.

Or at least 1/3rd of a 3rd screen :D

WHAT ....... the calculator looks a bit naff .... that's it, I'm going to write a stern letter to my MP and go back to Vista! That'll teach Microsoft!

Well it would seem a fresh install of Win10 is not going to happen. I originally updated Win8.1 to 10. Everything was fine. I like a fresh install myself so I formatted and put the Win 10 iso on. Nope, won't register. My old 8.1 key is invalid. Stuck.com

You don't need to enter a licence key, just click on through and it should activate when you connect to the net.

The calc is seriously naff, do not want
But cant I just use the old one if I copy it over

He can tape his ipad onto the end, job done

'final' version of Windows
sounds ominous, final

I have to convert various white boxes over to windows 10 but they only have 28gb drives. So I guess I need to clone to a larger drive to enable the free upgrade route, install final windows and then clone it back and hopefully it still fits.
Is it released to the public now, fully enabled. I was reading there is incomplete graphics drivers

Of course your 8.1 key is invalid for a 10 install, its an 8.1 key!!

As people (including Microsoft) have stated over and over and over again, to do a clean install from an ISO after previously upgrading from 8.1 or 7 you need to skip the key and then sign in with your MSA and it will activate using your stored Hardware Hash/Key.

All good here on both my PC's.

The new default Win 10 wallpaer is dog awful however. They should have included some better ones. :(

They must have a massive library of them as the ones in the Insider Previews seemed to change with every new build released.

The lock screen image is pants too.

But the calculator compares you to how much an elephant weighs, it's awesome!!!

Yes, I saw that too... That'll worry health and medical organisations for fear of those from both ends of the eating disorder spectrum. I can just picture the uproar in the news towards Microsoft from health organisations.
It also compares against number of footballs too with smaller weights...

I can't comment on improvements to Defender made for Windows 10 but PC Pro (now merged with Alphr) did a round up back in June of 2015 security suites and it didn't fair particularly well.

The article is here - http://www.alphr.com/microsoft/microsoft-security-essentials

I use Kaspersky and get it free every year just for having a Barclays account but would pay something a year for the peace of mind it brings me, I know it won't stop everything.

They rate AVG okay, Avast seemed to do great and I don't think quite as ad heavy as AVG so maybe give that a try, and it's still free.

That's an interesting find, I've always been a fan of PCPro as well!

I think like easy has said I am going to stick with Windows Defender alongside Malwarebytes free and see how it goes. Apparently you can use Windows Task Scheduler to actually schedule scans with Malwarebytes even though it's the free edition. I'm going to look into this as I haven't tried it yet.

I expect at the end of the day I will eventually switch to another AV at some point as I'm quite security conscious. Will just have to see how long I can last :P

Installation went well enough, from 7, but I can't get my x1950 PRO card to work. Just using the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter driver which doesn't support my monitor's 1680x1050 resolution.

Anyone know a how to get Windows 10 to play nice with this old card?

I've left the key blank on installation yet it's still not activating. I've signed into my Microsoft Account too.

Been getting some pretty funky audio problems with Windows 10 and an Asus Xonar Xense card using the UniXonar drivers. I have to swap the number of audio channels and the distortion goes away. Anyone else had this issue?

What are people doing with regards to the total lack of any Creative drivers? Do the ones for Windows 8/8.1 work or do we have to wait til August/October
